Early access as part of digital deluxe editions is retarded, in a world where its very common for games to need day one patches anyone who knowingly still chooses to buy a digital deluxe to play it early honestly deserves to be scammed.

It's false advertising in my opinion, because it's not 'early' access, you're just arbitrarily blocking everyone else from playing the game for a few days unless they pay your tithe. If the full game is playable then that's its release date.

I'd also say anyone who still pre-orders (or even buys day one) is a moron and deserves to be scammed.

I occasionally do so for games I especially want because it's increasingly common for that to be the only way to get hold of a steelbook, and I really like them. I don't enjoy having to do so.

If the company has shitcanned you before, yeah. I can understand for something like an Atlus game, or hell even some like the new BIG Nintendo release (Think Breath Of The Wild, Mario Platformer, Splatoon, Kirby tier). But treat a day-one purchase as something a company has to earn. Not from the trailers, but previous releases.

I've been waiting for a good enough or dumb enough reason to sign up, and shitting some steaming liquid feedback all over ole Jimothy M. Sterlingson was on my KF to-do list.
I am a former Escapist watcher. Used to eat up all of their main-line content when I was much younger, all of the videos at least, plus Yahtzee's column. Checking that stuff was part of my daily routine. I dare even admit that some (some!) of the early Extra Credits' takes were formative, as was Mr. Croshaw and some of his views on certain game design fundamentals. Hell, I shall even admit that Moviebob's early content was viable filler for me back then.

Fuck ME Jim fell low. I used to not mind his faggotry and mentions of polygamy and homosex (no personal life experience with any of that stuff at that point, so "haha he's so quirky and unapologetically flamboyant, thank God for him"). Cheered him on in his slapfight with those shovelware guys who couldn't make a decent barebones clicker to save their lives. Loved the fact that he just up and went solo after it and immediately got a 9k+/mo Patreon.
Last video of his that I watched was in 2018. I wasn't even too much of a chud back then, really. One particular upload made me just tap out. Never felt the urge or the interest to even click on a video of his since. It was something about that ancient greek asscreed having DLC in which the main character was gay (or was he gay in the main game, with the DLC giving you the option to romance a woman? Either way, people on both sides were MATI and slapfighting as usual, it seemed). Like, who the fuck cares and why is THIS in any way more important to discuss than, say, advocating for positive change to Steam's publishing model? If one really wanted to sperg, one could talk about how some Ancient Greeks were effectively bisexual, and sleeping with men for pleasure/manlyman bara romance while also having a wife for the purposes of continuing your line was not unheard of. I do not even remember Jim's take on that too clearly, just that it was all tiresome and preachy and pointless.
My only knowledge of Jim's current situation, content and trajectory comes from lurking this thread, which I only began doing after Null showed his under 900k special on stream. Honestly, a huge sub bleed and most of your old audience leaving is not the end of the world: I used to watch a Youtuber who did this to his channel deliberately. You may know the guy, EmpLemon. Former Youtube Pooper turned... commentary/essayist/whateverthefuck. Straight-up told his old audience "I do not do this thing anymore, unsub if you don't want new thing". He survived and seemed to be doing good last time I saw his stuff. That is proof that what Jim is going through can be remedied, even ridden like a wave to greater heights, perhaps. But only if you are truly passionate about what you're doing. And at this point I firmly believe that Jim Sterling was only ever passionate about Jim Sterling. Not games, not game development, and not even garme jurnalizm.
Hence, Jim is fucked. His future is Moviebob. No amount of flipping or spouting "popular" opinions du jour will bring his career back. He squandered it all on boglins and fried his brain gooning to his reflection in the mirror while high off on pain meds for back problems that he himself ate himself into. It's not just that he will never be a woman, he will never be a real person worth taking seriously. He is weakness and brainrot. And this thread is objectively the best way to interact with him and his content.

That's fair, I've done it too for Collector's Editions or when Nintendo does their bullshit artificial scarcity like with Mario 3D All-Stars, but for AAA goyslop like Ubisoft or EA I'm hesitant to even accept the games for free through Game Pass.

ironically, this is what led to me *not* pre-ordering Nintendo, even if their stuff typically has the polish to warrant that trust.

Its current year, baby. I gotta see that stuff is going to get to the shelves and stay on them long enough to be worth spending the cash on.

The video game industry is kinda unique in its shoulder shrugging at scalpers taking a huge wet bite out of the consumers, as long as the cash gets to the producer.

The PS5 was a big example of that. Sony could care less that PS5 *game sales* (lol) were going to be in the shitter because *no one could get a PS5 to play them on* because hey, every unit sold to a scalper was sold right?

Nintendos been too into that same concept.

Alright maybe controversial opinion but I thought his video this week was ok, watchable even. He stayed mostly on topic for the length of the video, no diatribes off into unrelated subjects (mostly) and no screething about trans genocide or proposing a JK Rowling witch hunt. I do like it when he looks into the corporate side of the gaming industry, its clearly something hes passionate about and could probably do something productive about if he had the commitment.

Im glad you posted this, it kinda relates to a post I made a while back about how jim critisizes gambling mechanics and in game purchases. I said that these things need to be criticized but that the way jim does it is very much focused on himself and how things affect him (which, is fine in the context of a personal rant) and that his concern for these things come across how much they cause him distress whereas he could emphasize more how they affect consumers (he does mention this in the video but as you example shows, he'll make a claim-like how this game is addictive in a good way and this one isnt, but then not explain it and just waffle on) this somehow got construed as me saying games should not be criticized for this? Not sure how.

In the video about the gambling mechanics he explained how bad it is for those with a gambling addiction like himself, he didnt really explain the other ramifications for those of us without gambling addictions or other types of gamers who might play these games. Now of course there will be people saying well we should know, use common sense etc but thats not the point-hes the one making the video and covering the topic, and while I doubt his general intelligence I dont think hes stupid in this area and could have made a great video covering all bases if he didnt let his own ego and needs to play the victim get in the way. I hope im making sense here.

I struggled to make it through this video, the only thing I got from this is that jimmy boy has severe ADHD with the amount of jumping around it does (the visuals dont help). He really should just go the AVGN route rather than pretend he's still a gaming journalist.

They appear to have added a 'feature' where the scroll wheel truncates the graphs to cover a smaller period of time, which is really helpful and not annoying at all (trying to control the truncation even with the mouse pointer is frustrating as fuck tbh).

Was busy with real world shit and quickly caught up with the thread and this one stands out pretty hard. Without spending hours watching the videos since that post to be sure. Jim has posted a single ''''''video essay'''''' (just a pretty normal retrospective) style video, it got about half his already diminished average view count.

I'm kinda suprised he didn't talk about ac shadows. To me it screams 'progressive devs thought it would be cool but doubled down for the outrage to push the game's name and just hoped that the general audience would not care because let's be honest no one playing ubislop games after 2016 have a functional brain'. On one hand £30 day 1 dlc and a battlepass in a £60 game that's just the same shit repackaged and yet somehow still worse than what came before should be something he hates, but it kinda looks like something he'd defend.
