It would seem highly inappropriate. Harry probably could manage, but not with Meghan around. Governor General posts were a traditional make work for certain royals where the devil makes work for idle hands, like Edward and Wallis. He was made governor of the Bahamas and did fairly okay.

To me, it's just the weird way they lied about the birth, Meghan had an epidural but went home two hours later? She ate heavy Indian food in the middle of her labor?

Harry was seen as the "jack the lad" element of the royal lineage. He knew he was the "spare" behind William, but he served his country well, served actual active duty in a War Zone in Afganistan and fit in. He was "caught" getting pissed with his regiment and causing a ruckus with them and shrugged it off.

He was respected.

He did his Duty.

Mehgan comes along, pretending she did not stalk him, and the UK puts on not just a wedding, but a ROYAL Wedding.
All the pomp and ceremony of a royal occasion. Golden coaches, ceremonial guards, marching bands, hundreds of soldiers as escorts. They shut down roads in London for the people to wave flags and celebrate.

They were joined in Matrimony in St. Pauls Cathedral, on one side by all of Harry's friends and family, and on the other a mishmash of Mehgan's work colleagues from "Suits" the TV show, Oprah and George Clooney ( and wife), who they had never met.

As is tradition within the Royal household , the newlyweds were gifted a "Cottage" on the Royal Windsor Estate". It is not a cottage, it's a rather large 5 bedroom house, but it sits within a restricted area and provides good security.

As part of Royal Duty, you have to perform certain tasks. Not particularly difficult tasks, but tasks they are. Those might include representing charity works around the UK or the Commonwealth. You smile, you shake hands and you ask how things are going.

Markle had a problem with that. The charities were not to her liking. She thought that Williams wife was getting better charities.
