But even if their view of a given society they've never experienced firsthand is accurate... they really have no idea how hard that sort of society would be on them. Sure, the women stay inside their gender role, they keep house, don't work, defer to husband and cheating/divorce is very frowned upon. But the men are just as constricted by gender roles. As you say, they have to work their asses off to constantly prove their value to society, the very first thing they have to do is prove to a woman's father that they're worthy husband material! Then be the sole breadwinner in a world that thinks the 40-hour work week is an urban legend, next thing you know there's no time left to sit at home with a bag of cheetos perusing the current Steam sale while the wife gives you a porn star blowjob in between cooking you steak dinners.
