Kinda off topic, but this is one of the reasons people shouldn't be putting so much of their family's photo album online, especially if children are involved. The world doesn't need to see bathing pictures ffs. Parents should be aware of the filth using the Internet and cringe at the idea of them looking at their kids.

That series and how it's discussed is one of the biggest blackpills on anime as a whole to me. I saw the high praise and production value and genuinely thought that meant it was going to go the direction of "disgusting pedo gooner weeb gets a second chance at life and breaks out of his past life's mindset after experiencing the joy of earnestly living life". There's even a point in the story where the protagonist's dad slaps the shit out of him for happily fucking around on a goofy romcom adventure when most of his family is missing after fantasy 9/11.

(c) An offense under this section is a state jail felony, except that the offense is:
(1) a felony of the third degree if it is shown on the trial of the offense that the person has been previously convicted one time of an offense under this section or Section 43.23, 43.26, 43.261, or 43.262; or​
(2) a felony of the second degree if it is shown on the trial of the offense that the person has been previously convicted two or more times of an offense under this section, Section 43.23, 43.26, 43.261, or 43.262, or any combination of those offenses.​

It mentioned cartoons specifically. While I'm no lawyer, it's generally assumed by the judiciary that what is written in a law holds meaning. It quite well could be. It will need to be tested though against lolicon, specifically the non AI variety.

It is quite incredible how little thought lolicons have put into the implications of AI when it comes to legislation. For as fanatical as they are, they are also often incredibly lazy and complacent - feeling safe on the basis of legal decisions made prior to the rise of generative AI. Even someone 100% on board with all drawn material has to wrestle with the idea that materials generated with tech, utilising images of real children, may be indistinguishable from other digital art; forgetting generative tech, even 'filtered' abused materials may be indistinguishable from a total fabrication if one is unaware of the context of its creation.
The choice, when it comes to policy, may come down to sacrificing cartoons to make sure the other material can be purged or protecting abuse material and porn generated with images of actual children in order to keep the more fictional depictions safe. An ironic flip of their usual rhetoric about people 'protecting cartoon children.'

They have pushed AI to its legal limits. This was inevitable. Cartoons and other forms of art getting caught in the crossfire was going to happen. As you said, they got lazy. When all it took for infinite AI CSAM was a decent PC, it was fucking over.
