He's right in general especially on the issue of actually predicting legal outcomes. It isn't like earthquakes, volcanoes, or even the weather, where there are methods of being pretty accurate almost all the time. Short of mind-reading you can't guarantee an outcome (and it is actually usually against ethical rules to promise a specific outcome for exactly that reason).

The rare exceptions are courts like the Supremes, where you can have a situation where you have five people on the court who have explicitly stated they'd overrule a particular decision. In a case like that, they're very likely to act in conformity with their previous statements.

The current composition of the Court is also pretty predictable, with Roberts and, to a lesser extent, Gorsuch being the two potential wild cards. I've generally had pretty good accuracy on predictions from SCOTUS, like the overturning of Roe v. Wade and of affirmative action being inevitable. Not that that's a huge boast. Six members of the Court were openly hostile to Roe and similarly, the majority who wrote opinions in Grutter and Gratz had dissolved with at least two Justices (depending how you count them) having been replaced by, again, openly hostile Justices who were either in the dissent in the original cases or had been openly critical of them.

If Nick was smart (and we're already in the realm of fantasy here), this is the story he would've gone with. "I don't know how she tested positive, but given we had drugs within our home, I can only assume she got into our stash." Would people have still been disgusted, would he have still lost some friends? Absolutely. But it's a tight story with a clear path to redemption. By going to rehab and appearing sober on stream, he could reasonably claim that while what he did was reckless, he took responsibility and it's now all in the past, and people should move on. This would be largely effective except for the criticism he'd still receive from the Farms, as we've all witnessed how his audience doesn't really care about Nick 'the person' so much as his content.

Leaving it all as an open question has been the worst possible move, anyone in PR will tell you that you can't leave room for your detractors to write the narrative, you have to strike first and strike effectively. What you especially shouldn't do is conceal the most critical evidence, keeping the story alive in perpetuity and making yourself look guilty of things you may not have done. For the rest of his life, everywhere he appears on the internet someone will ask him to set the story straight, and it'll forever be his most interesting attribute.
