I've been watching through a pretty comprehensive documentary series by Ernie Berkowitz and there's effectively a single explanation you can boil down everything bad in Chance's life to: If he didn't poke the bear, the bear wouldn't bite him. If he took responsibility and tried to fix himself, he wouldn't be here right now. Chance has decided instead that the only solution to his problems has been to hit the bear when it bites him instead of staying away from it before it can bite harder.
  • When he's shown to be a cheater, he blames the people who expose him instead of saying it was his fault.
  • When his past girlfriends take issue with him, he turns on them and verbally harasses them.
  • When he's proven to have stolen content, he tries to say the only reason people are after him are because they're jealous.
  • When he sexted Kate when he thought she was a child, he believed her faking her age was illegal and thus completely nullified his bad act.
  • When faced with trolls who antagonize him, he literally rages at them and tells them to show up to his house.
Chance literally brings every bad thing that's ever happened onto himself. He will not ever learn how to counter anything bad that happens in his life because he only ever cares about deflecting or hiding instead of protecting.
