This is because Vicky is unbelievably sheltered and doesn't know shit about what she is talking about. In her mind, being in a vegetative state means an endless stream of friends, family and carers/doctors catering to her every need all day while fawning over her and telling her how brave and wonderful she is (plus a hefty dose of the good drugs). I am also pretty sure, she thinks vegetative state is more like locked-in syndrome: Being conscious, just not moving (which is its own type of hell but I guess it isn't too different from how she is spending her life right now).

The reality of languishing with the only human contact being an overworked nurse doing the bare minimum before hurrying to the next unfortunate soul and with the "community" either immediately abandoning ship or gradually moving on doesn't cross her mind.

I’ve noticed that people like Vicky who exist in her particular social circles tend to openly claim that they are especially supportive and have helped people navigate difficult times. Practically speaking, this seems to be mostly in the form of making public tweets reminding everyone to drink water and practice self-care.

There are few cows that really piss me off, but Vicky has the honor of being one of them. Even for her, though, this screed is particularly enraging. Wow, what a beautiful act it’s gonna be for the community to have to wipe your vegetative ass, Vicky.

I usually see "traumaversary" used in reference to the date of a trauma being a PTSD reminder. But anytime someone is attempting to use it seriously, it's for stuff like the the day their child died, or the dates of a guy's tour of duty where he got his legs blown off, or the day of a natural disaster. Unexpected stuff that knocks people deeply off-balance and takes more than bed-rest and sympathy to get the balance back. Hence, the anniversary often becomes a day of handling symptoms (possibly grieving), until you've remitted enough that it can just be a day when something happened in the past. (Vicky's gofundme from back then (a) seems pretty expected relative to her behavior, and she loves the idea of being deeply off-balance anyway. Also, I'm dumbfounded that she wrote her own story in such a way that makes it sound like a normie trying to euphemize their weird acquaintance's munching.)

Waving the date around like a parade banner is, like everything else Vicky does: a neon glitter clownshow parody of struggling. i think it was like one of those rehabs for people with functional disorders or pain conditions that teach essentially everything except opioid use. They’re especially commonly recommended for kids with pain conditions so they don’t get addicted to opioids before they’re even adults. From what I can tell her parents required her to go as a condition for something and she of course did not follow the rules. I swear I think I remember her saying it was unreasonable for them to expect her to engage in PT without giving her opioids first?
