UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

One of Putin's demands for peace is no NATO in Ukraine (lol, sorry to those million people who died but the mic wanted more money) and no peacekeepers in Ukraine.

While no peacekeepers may not be agreed upon, if it is, what does this do for Starmer and his plans to draft people to defend Ukraine?

Of fucking couese they do. It is not needed, stupid and makes them look like demons.
It's career suicide at best. If you want these people to actually get into work, how are they going to do that without money for food, clothes etc.? I know travel costs can be reimbursed a lot of the time, but you need money to begin with before you even get to that point.

This never stopped them introducing Universal Credit sanctioning.

In the UK, which group of people are most likely to pop out more than two kids and thus claim more in benefits and are thus the reason why such a cap was introduced to begin with? I'm almost definitely giving too much credit to them, and implication that they are taking actions against Muslims and non-whites specifically is definitely cope, but I think it's something to consider.
That was almost certainly done to target chavs than Muslims, hence why every single show you used to get in the mid-2000s about "benefits Britain" showed off trashy white families with 10+ kids.
The Muslims that are intent on claiming benefits just claim their child's retarded or autistic, and apply for disability benefits that aren't affected by any sort of child caps - granted the children often are deformed because of the rampant inbreeding in Pakistani communities, but still.

Fuck, our deputy's job was 3 years as a carer and thinks she is fit for the job.
If you want more of a laugh she hardly did any care work and jumped straight into union roles and union politics to avoid it.

Most people I’ve had the misfortune to work with who are heavily in with the unions do it to avoid doing work.

She’s not even qualified to work the the House of Commons canteen.

Once the US get digging for minerals any further attack on Ukraine will be an attack on US interests and tantamount to a declaration of war on America.

Starmer and the EU are desperate to be seen to be doing something, but when the shooting stops and US firms start mining that will be as much as a military deterrent as an aircraft carrier strike group in the Black Sea.

Let’s hope Moldova has some shiny stuff underground the Yanks can go digging for.

It potentially is needed because getting a diagnosis that counts you as disabled is much easier now with lesser mental health issues part of it. If benefits are capped for people who aren't disabled the first day it goes through the NHS is going to disappear under hordes of people all claiming, "of course he's retarded, just look at him."

Edit - and so I am also adding some news Ofcom's backing down over more of its judgements against GB news. Naturally neither they nor certain media sources are giving their climb down as much attention as the initial efforts.

Ofcom has backed down on a further three impartiality rulings against GB News after losing a High Court battle over programmes fronted by Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg.
GB News last month secured a major victory against Ofcom after a judge quashed the regulator’s verdict that the channel had breached broadcasting rules over the use of Sir Jacob as a presenter.
In a further boost for the start-up broadcaster, Ofcom has now dropped three more breach decisions that related to episodes of a morning show fronted by Tory husband-and-wife duo Esther McVey and Philip Davies.

Ms McVey is the Conservative MP for Tatton, while her husband served as a Tory MP from 2005 until the general election last year.
Angelos Frangopoulos, the chief executive of GB News, said: “Ofcom has now removed a total of five breaches against GB News. This follows the High Court’s decision that Ofcom had acted unlawfully.
“Although we welcome Ofcom’s adjustment of GB News’s compliance record, we note this only happened after GB News’s lawyers wrote to the regulator asking why its website failed to reflect the High Court’s judgment.
“It is noticeable that whilst Ofcom has previously rushed to social media to publicise new investigations and breach decisions against GB News – including in relation to the five breach decisions that have now been withdrawn – no equivalent posts were made to make the public aware of the High Court’s decision or the withdrawal of the five breach decisions.”

A spokesman for Ofcom said: “We accept the court’s guidance on this important aspect of due impartiality in broadcast news and the clarity set out in its judgment.

“We will now review and consult on proposed changes to the broadcasting code to restrict politicians from presenting news in any type of programme to ensure this is clear for all broadcasters.”
The High Court battle, which marked the first time Ofcom has lost a legal challenge against one of its broadcasting decisions, exposed a lack of clarity in rules about the use of politicians as presenters.
The broadcasting code states that a politician cannot be used as a newsreader, news interviewer or reporter unless there is an exceptional editorial justification. Ofcom had concluded that two episodes of Sir Jacob’s State of the Nation had fallen foul of these rules.
However, in a ruling last month Justice Rowena Collins Rice quashed the verdicts, saying Ofcom had failed to distinguish between a news programme and a current affairs show.
The verdicts have been sent back to Ofcom to reconsider, while the regulator must now pay GB News’s legal costs.
Ofcom’s interpretation of the code also underpinned three other breach decisions related to two episodes of Friday Morning with Esther and Phil and one edition of Saturday Morning with Esther and Phil broadcast in 2023.

Yeah, the much-derided "single mothers what live off the social" are a white lassie phenomenon, the muslim lassies not being allowed outside on their own long enough to get pregnant out of wedlock.

That was mid 00s when the poles arrived in bulk and Muslim lads were complaining about poles moving in 10 to a household (the plumbing was amazing).

The Poles came over to work and earn as much as they could, without hiding behind an asylum claim.

And as soon as working in the UK became more difficult (just before Brexit) most of the Poles returned to Poland.

Will the asylum seeking muslims ever go back to whence they came? Will they fuck.

If we cut off their gibs then it would be the biggest exit of a people from a country ever recorded. Now does any politician have the balls to do that? Nope, not one.

It's funny to think that Brexit was partially done due to EU immigration like the Pols. But now after Brexit and what Boris brought over instead of the Europeans, I've found people almost have a reminisces for the pols and other Europeans over the jeets, niggers and Baltshits (I don't counts the Baltics as white or European) we got instead.

So apparently the Supreme Court attacked Starmer over bypassing protocols can any of you find anything on this? I cannot find anything except YouTube videos.
I see a lot of talk, but I can't find any evidence of the supreme court ruling against Starmer on anything. I think it might be made up.

I see nothing here. The alleged case happened at least 5 days ago, judging by when videos started getting released, but there's nothing in the filings that sounds similar for the entire year. I don't believe the supreme court would hold a spontaneous hearing on such a matter, and from the way the decision is described, I don't think it's actually something the court even has the power to do.

Has anyone noticed the recipe for dairylea has changed? It wasn't great before but there's something really off about it. Niece had one for her dinner and the smells is totally foul. Texture looks grainy and rotten. Made my gyp seeing her eat it.

Nothing mentioned online re: a recipe change recently. Very odd.

You sure it hadn't expired?

YES. I don't know what they've done but it's weird and grainy and watery. I also think it tastes wrong and bad now but I thought maybe that was me.
