UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I love when this thread just randomly turns to food.
You want to talk about food?

See these fucking things? They were my FAVOURITE and they barely fucking sold them at the shops by mine. Like I'd go to the shops right and they were usually not there, only on like a rare fucking day and any other place never sold them and now they're gone. FUCKING GONE. WHY. It's so fucking bullshit. I hope whoever made that decision chokes on kebab dick.

I've tried some other cheap shit of the same name but it's just not the same taste. I actually hate this gay faggot country.

Are those the ones with the breadsticks? I haven't had them in so long.

@the rat : yeah sort of like Herby corn snack ones. Not seen in years myself but the cheese was always smooth and not very cheesy. Whatever mondolez dishes out slop that was, smelled strongly of chemicals, was grainy, pasty and almost gritty.

I'm absolutely not up duff. It was just rancid slop.

Hammering The Neets
You init capping this made me imagine it as some historical event like the Dissolution of the Monasteries or the Diet of Worms. The Hammering of the Neets in 1482 is now considered a key factor in the breakup of principality of East Macedonia; the effects are still seen today in the distribution of the Neetish language, with almost no speakers north of the Danube.

"No, we don't believe in censoring speech, but of course we do need to deal with terrorism. We need to deal with paedophiles and issues like that."

"We need to censor the internet and jail you for viewing memes or else the racist paedophile terrorist's win."

We've been here before, we all know what this bill will be actually used to control and what types of content it wont touch or ignore at the best of times. Expect a lot of right wingers and guys with cameras walking in a field to get picked up by this because they said maybe we don't need quite so many Turkish barbers.

Now if you did want to catch paedophile terrorist then just pop down to the BBC headquarters.

Nobody probably cares except me but more of the usual left-wing shills are turning on Starmer. What the MPs say (or don’t say) is one thing, but when the propagandists aren’t on his side, it really tells me that dissent within the party must be huge.

Even setting aside the pro-Palestinian faggots like Owen Jones, who have been criticising Starmer for ages. Theres a lot of entertaining cope on BlueSky right now. Even on Reddit there’s been a lot of posts on this, by blatant liberals. That’s even ignoring the anti reform/trump stuff they are distracting themselveswith. The sickfluencers & munchies are screeching about their dole drying up. Alienating your main voter base, including your precious Muslims popping out disabled kids. What could go wrong?

The press this morning has been a lot of is Labour worse than the conservatives? This is very interesting to me too. Really will be interesting to watch these next few days. How long can he defend this one for.

Has anyone noticed the recipe for dairylea has changed? It wasn't great before but there's something really off about it. Niece had one for her dinner and the smells is totally foul. Texture looks grainy and rotten. Made my gyp seeing her eat it.

Nothing mentioned online re: a recipe change recently. Very odd.
Maybe they're adding protein powder to bulk it out?

Gen Z risks benefits crisis as four in 10 consider giving up work
Turns out killing the job market by flooding it with low skilled browns and blacks who will work longer then you for way less and making wages stagnate for the better part of 2 decades really puts off young people from even wanting to work in the first place.

Can't make them work, can't conscript them. What hope do we even have for gen z?
