He's not broke but he isn't living it up either. His site doesn't bring in anything close what it used to and he's got child support for two kids in addition to his new wife and kid. He Not living in an apartment because he thinks it's hip.

I doubt he has the money to pay to have someone that's capable of porting his current forum to xenforo the way he wants it done.

I have come to love Xenforo but it has definitely been a learning curve. It's flexible as hell, but not everything is intuitive and the stock standard "help" section isn't that useful.

There will definitely be a lot of complaints initially. And if Lowtax doesn't want another waffle.images type disaster, he's also going to have to turn off some features people actually like.

It will be "challenging" to say the least, especially if he adds real time chat.

Yeah the smiley thing is nuts. I think it's something like $30 to have a smiley you make added to the forum. During KF's break I dusted off my SA account and popped over there to check things out and noticed an annoying tumblrina now has a username one letter different from mine. Figured maybe I'd spare the $5 to change my name, checked it out and a name change is $7.95 now.

I decided to just keep my old name and continue my 5-year streak of not posting.

Lowtax will shop around and he'll have two choices:

1) Have a competent person or small team of people properly migrate the forums to xenforo the way he wants it done (keep everything he currently has). This will take 6-12 months and would be incredibly expensive.

2) Another grifter will come along and claim they can do it in 3 months for $5,000.

Guess which option he's going to choose?

His best option would be to just archive everything and open up a brand new forum, keep the old one accessible, and import nothing over but user info associated to email accounts and have a1 month grace period with free avatars. Keep the old one hosted but locked and behind the platinum paywall. Also by getting rid of all the admins but himself for a bit while the forum adjusts

This is what so many people have been saying but I'd bet his admins are in his ear telling him it's a bad idea.

Milgoons are, for the most part, as liberal as the rest of SA now. All the GiP posters with bad opinions were chain-probated by that mod and basically stopped posting. The GiP current events thread has devolved into one giant Trump induced meltdown that wouldn't look out of place in D&D.
