When I was in undergrad I dated a nursing student who interned at a local hospital and the stuff she told me they found in bums was fucking crazy.

In an update video Tophia posted on TikTok she stated she visits her mom at the bedside daily and her mom asks her to stay because she is traumatized, and keeps seeing an assailant coming after her. Tophia is not allowed to stay overnight at the hospital. So it seems mamachu can speak somewhat, at least. If she was ventilated/on life support she wouldn't be able to speak.

There has FINALLY been a minor update to this story. As stated earlier today the shooter has been ID'd as 43 YO Peter Garcia but it was ALSO finally revealed that Mamachu was shot in the head/neck area though the severity was not disclosed but she spoke to police so we can assume it was a graze from the bullet rather than a direct hit. "not being allowed" could simply mean they're giving her an actual bed and she'd have to sleep in a chair/recliner next to her mother. Hell, even if officially "not allowed" there are enough corners and waiting areas with chairs, etc, I can't imagine her getting the boot from staying.
