I actually don't think Chris wants a close friend. The impression I get is that he's happy with someone who'll just let him burble on about Sonichu, and he's not looking for anything deeper. I think a deep emotional friendship would actually be quite stressful for him - with the 'tism, subtle emotional cues and non-literal conversation are difficult to deal with. Hence the fact that he was utterly convinced he was in there with Megan and the Wallflower. He interpreted normal things that friends do as romantic interest.

I don't think Chris hasn't had much experience with relationships outside of his parents. At least not anything deep. Usually someone is just being nice because he's exceptional or because they're a troll. And considering the lack of boundaries in physical contact between him and his mother it's no wonder he doesn't know what's appropriate in a platonic vs a romantic relationship.

Of course not. Whenever Chris has wanted someone, it's for the purpose of them to do something for him. He wants someone like Bob to pay the bills & bail him out. He wants a Barb to provide him with a free roof over his head. He wants a walking uterus to pop out Crystal. He wants the police to be his own personal Gestapo. And he wants everyone else on Earth to be his servants.
But as a friend? I'm not sure Chris is even capable of knowing just what a friend actually is. Even if he did he would probably hate the concept because a friendship involves giving as well as taking.

The closest thing Chris had to a True and Honest friend was Megan, and he screwed that up. He clearly regrets it. I know the cool thing to do is treat Chris like a subhuman beast, but in actuality he knows he messed up with Megan, she really was the best friend he's ever had and I think he sees Alexa as a do-over of sorts for Megan.
Chris has been thinking a lot about Megan and he knows he was wrong, he's sorry for it and seems to genuinely miss her, so let's see if he's learned anything between Megan and Alexa.
