Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

I wonder if class bonuses are match specific. Example, the more you use Assault class in a match, you progress through the levels but it resets each match. Actually, Hardline had what I'm talking about called Perks. So, this isn't new.

that's why I have no hope for any BF anymore. all those surface level changes no one really needs and asks for (unless they want to copy tarkov like another chinese clone did..), battlefield worked best when the formula was simple. it's similar to CS, imagine CS3 has leaning, sliding and prone, more is always better, right?
battlebit and delta forces showed you only need a solid enough game that isn't total ass, how fucking hard can it be to design a basic bitch battlefield without "redefining" it or tacking on shit that distracts from the main attraction?
Battlefield would have to evolve since it has to indirectly compete with Warzone AND win back disgruntled fans that were disappointed from the last couple entries.

I enjoyed 2042, I'm probably heavily in the minority for that. But even so the lack of content and destruction held it back. I'm happy to see more explosions and shit in this.

imo depends on the game and how it fosters that gameplay. you could try to curb it, but that would lead to immediate whining by their "influencers" and sweaty e-sport tryhards because those are the people they think make people play the game, not the fun of the game itself. western designers simply suck, blizzard drove a whole cashcow into the ground this way. remember dice couldn't even properly do team balancing for fucking decades even when there were obvious mods since 1942.
Well honestly show me any recent fps pvp game that hasn't succumbed to the meta-slaving meat grinder riddled with wannabe esports guys.
You can't. The only way to prevent this is to restrict all player choices like in BF 1942 & BF Vietnam.
Even the most casual games have this problem and I think it's more to do with that pretty much all Eastern FPS pvp games are f2p lootbox micro transaction hellscapes designed to farm Chinese bugmen & smelly Indian kids.

I agree that catering to esports people and sweats is a good way to kill off your game but even without that you'll still have youtuber XYZ make videos on "BATTLEFIELD X BEST LOADOUT FOR EACH CLASS", because all these comp-homos whether they are or aren't esports related take the comp mindset to any game they touch.

Kids see sweats livestreaming, monkey see monkey do, now the game is riddled with AEK using bunny hopping medics all playing like it's cod & bunny hopping scouts only using spawn beacon & tugs trying to hit clips.

For the love of God, PLEASE HAVE FACTIONS BACK for the next Battlefield.

I'd love to have the option of female soldiers, but I'd understand why that would be omitted from this entry. A compromise for that would be to limit female soldiers to maybe Support/Medic.

I'm seeing lots of people online speculate that Dice leaked their own game in a bid to get more attention.

If that is true, then it might be working.
What's the point of NDAs then? Just let them stream and upload footage freely.

I wonder if they scrapped the proposed Battlefield universe idea that 2042 was supposed to implement.

Battlefield Hardline turns ten years old this year.

YouTube surprised me with this in depth retrospective on Hardline. In short, I'm surprised of the level of depth Hardline's multiplayer had from its maps and weapon versatility. I'd say Hardline was a step sideways in regards to the Battlefield formula. It did things right with the cops and robbers theme, but I would say it could've done more. I'm guessing with time or executive restrictions prevented Visceral from completely running with its theming.

There's a new event/Battle Pass for BF2042. There's normal Domination and Rush co-op (4 vs AI). The robots/AI are way too OP.

Sorry for the bad quality, I forgot I had HDR on.

I thought they stopped supporting 2042.

Anyway, I feel the Battlefield community reacted harshly to Hardline too soon. To me, I saw a vision from Visceral to mix up the formula with DICE's approval. I will say that Hardline was overpriced at launch. People say that Hardline didn't have as much content as BF4 but I would say that the initial content was undervalued in HOW it was executed. I'm sure EA mandated it to be a full price game with expansions.

I just gave it a pass because it wasn't my thing. I wanted Battlefield, not Cops and Robbers, and I figured I wasn't alone on that train of thought and knew which way the wind was blowing. Retrospectively, I would have rather it succeeded as an alternative form of Battlefield instead of what we got in V and 2042.

Ironically I've been sinking my teeth into Ready or Not in the absence of good modern-like shooters, so I guess I'm fine with playing Cops and Robbers if presented right.

It was a fundamentally different game.

Battlefield games are large scale military arcade shooters with vehicles.
Hardline was a quasi payday cops and robbers.

Probably would have done a lot better if it was its own thing instead of trying to be a sequel in the franchise.

Speaking as a Call of Duty player, Hardline felt like an arcade shooter with a Battlefield twist that offered a different spin from the typical modern military or world war era shooters common at the time. Goofy fun that understood the assignment that didn't feel out of place unlike V's female soldiers or 2042's cheesy specialists among a war-torn Earth.

Hardline was not perfect. The driving, while servicable, felt unnatural with how twitchy vehicle handling was. Cars and trucks had no weight to them, almost like you're on a swivel with little impact from collisions. Competitive mode of 5v5 was a waste of resources with how poorly implemented the maps and modes were from the base title. Weapon imbalance was common with assault rifles and thermal scopes. Campaign was fine, but forgettable. The end level cap of 150 was unnecessary, especially with three achievements of obtaining 10,000 kills PER class.

Support are always carrying around LMG's in BF games and I think women sprinting around carrying machine guns would be goofy but medic I can get behind.

I made my medics in BFV women but not the rest.

Back to Hardline, I think Hardline changed class gadgets between Mechanic (engineer) and Professional (sniper).

Probably other changes with classes too. I know with spawn beacons, snipers would place them at high vantage points to snipe from.

With the footage of the leaks still going around the internet, I am like 85% convinced Dice leaked the footage on their own.

Feels suspiciously too good to be true to have this amount of footage manage to slip away from their fingers.

The way that The Sims 4 Expansion Leaks have happened makes it even likely that EA deliberately does these "leaks" to drive up engagement.
