US Portland, Oregon Megathread - Tales from The Rose City

Didn't see much of a thread regarding all the fine antics of Portland and the people who live there, so I thought to make one.

Lesbian bar shuts down one week after opening because they weren't woke enough

Doc Marie’s is a lesbian bar that opened on July 1st of this year with the hope of bringing more inclusivity to the city of Portland. But just one week after their grand opening they were forced to shut down because of complaints that the bar was not a “safe space.” Similar to the story I wrote a few weeks ago about the queer-owned cafe in Philadelphia that was shut down by employees for not being woke enough, Doc Marie’s was cannibalized by the woke mob.

The crowd on opening day was huge. One woman said that the line for entry on opening night was “wrapped around the block” with “literally 200 lesbians” waiting to get in.

But the excitement about a new progressive hangout dissipated quickly. Within days, Doc Marie’s found itself on the receiving end of accusations of not being inclusive enough for trans people and people of color. Despite mask mandates being lifted in Portland, patrons accused the bar of not implementing enough COVID safety measures. Patrons also claimed that Doc Marie’s had “culturally appropriative art” on the walls.
One TikToker, who says she attended the grand opening, breaks down the accusations against the bar:

Employees of Doc Marie’s created an Instagram page to echo these concerns. They claimed that the owners weren’t proactive enough in creating a safe space and accused the owners of racism. The employees also demanded that the bar host “free opportunities for education” for the community.

Eventually, the employees demanded the owners relinquish ownership of the bar and hand the business to them. The owners were given a “24-hour deadline” to adhere to the ludicrous demands.

Just five days after opening, the bar announced on July 6th that they had to close temporarily in order to address the cries from the woke mob for a “safe and inclusive space.”

Surrendering to the woke mob doesn’t appear to be working out in Doc Marie’s favor, as the bar remains closed with no public plan to reopen.

Heads up to any nerds in the metro area---if you're looking for a worthwhile tabletop gaming store, I recommend to skip Dark Future on Broadway and Mox Pub on Burnside.

The former is run by an "indigenous" person that seems awfully palefaced for a Native American and keeps his own public personal pity party of Bluesky LGBTQI saber-rattlers in the store's Discord, and the latter is run by a humorless, hamfisted girlboss wannabe and caters to local troons.

There are some game stores in Portland I CAN recommend, if anyone wants to know. Honestly though, I'm kinda getting burned out on the hobby when there's little to nothing new of note coming out and when people are willing to tolerate trash loser punks like this in the hobby.

I can't for the life of me get how some of the fucking retards in this city manage to seamlessly pingpong between seemingly harmless and mild-mannered and some sort of insane frothing social justice zealot at the top of a hat.

If MLK Jr and Malcolm X saw this shit they'd probably reform the KKK themselves.

I have another idea of what King might do. Malcolm X would probably do that Klan route, even if he mellowed out after going to Mecca. Didn’t he also have something where he said to be wary of white liberals and how they could be worse racists than those who practice segregation?

I saw that vlog who mention then Portland leaders panic after they saw then downtown property values dropped 50%.
Hard to saunter around reeling with the insanity of your power when your tax base just had the bottom drop out of it and you no longer have any of other people's money.

Let's see how long before they'll reach the bottom of the barrel.
Related, I've heard that in some circles there is a good amount of panic over the higher-earning tax base of the city moving out. Not surprising that people with means don't want to own commercial property that has a high likelihood of being destroyed in a riot, or even live in a city that taxes them so hard for the privilege of having their shit smashed.

Could we said then Portland is now the Chicago or Detroit of Oregon?

that was a good piece but he misses something crucial. He gets that the west coast cities are being run by lunatics, but he doens't seem to understand they're not just crazy retards, he gets that the idea of a "non business based downtown" won't work but he doesn't seem to get what the motivation is. the reporter interviewing the Portland city council or whoever that guy is says exactly what it is. now the decisions about what happens downtown is up to 12 people. this has been the *open* intention of OR and WA politics for decades. what is being set up here in plain sight is a soviet.

Parts of Vancouver are gentrifying fast.
Oregon already has a Detroit, no Chicago though.
Didn't Detroit (OR) get hit really hard by the fires a few years ago? Not sure how much they've rebuilt.

Another day, another protest. I was raised with an appreciation for volunteerism and charity, so why don't these dumbfucks actually organize to do something constructive around the city?
The town near me had a protest. Someone on social media posted "Please don't photograph the protesters and put it on social media." If I wasn't busy I was so tempted to take my longest paparazzi looking lens and spend some time shooting them.

Photos, shooting photos.

It's an unexamined mindset, they're just mad about things and frustrated because they feel powerless to change it, so they're lashing out to try to effect some kind of change. If they actually tried to figure out what upset them and change that, they would probably try to organize something material in their local communities beyond the most performative "we raised funds for another drag queen trivia night at the pub!" announcements. Even those just serve as another occasion for them to gather, complain about politics and reinforce each others' opinions, and otherwise do nothing.
