This has never been a convincing argument. People don’t like this shit exactly because of the fact that it encourages people who engage with lolicon content and internet communities to move in that direction. I was reading another thread where people are actively trying to identify child groomers on X. That seemed like a more valuable use of time. Or even just raising awareness of it, or other things like child trafficking or parents selling their kids into Hollywood or the modelling industry. But I think I saw the thread chasing down lolicons is one usually at the top of the page. Which implies to me, people just want to punch down on weirdos. I mean this is a lolcow site. I look at the Lolicon Defenders thread regularly and I have not come across a post on there that highlights an X user merely engaging in waifu culture (which is also dumb). The people featured in that thread are being highlighted because they are saying or posting pedophile content with an anime flavor. If you paid attention to the recent Harmful Opinions videos in the last month, you’ll see that it’s highly likely that V-tubers that pander to pedos and are vocal about it on X usually are in discord and other chat communities that outright share CSAM or loli content that is just drawn CSAM. There is good reason for people to be suspicious of people who post lolicon or defend it.

Tl;dr: if it quacks and walks like a duck, it’s a fucking duck.

Here's my opinion: Don't ban lolicon, but flag every single consumer of it for further investigation. This not only ensures that suspicious people get flagged, but that there's an easy trap to identify each and every single person who consumes such pornography for the purpose of stopping one who may be on the path to doing something irredeemable. Sort of like a mental cancer, if you can identify the patients before they get to late-stage, you can put them on a path for correction.

Well, I do know that in the USA there's already a sex offender registry, so I'm pretty you have to register as a sex offender before you're allowed to be a pedophile in the first place. I believe it involves taking some kind of safety course and passing a proficiency test, and some states may require you to pay an annual fee to maintain your permit. (NOTE: have not researched this, I am not a lawyer.)
