I remember him saying that he hates Asuka because she's a mean tsundere that hates Shinji and like Rei more, which is most likely why the first rival is a mean tsundere that looks like Asuka and Kuu Dere (yes there is a character named Kuu Dere) isn't a rival and looks like Rei.
