Warhammer 40k

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
So playing a warlord titan at 2000 points instead of 3500, vs 2000 points of a non competitive imperial knights list, with no objectives or secondaries, on a nearly empty table, deploying as far away from eachother as possible, the knight player got the titan down to 19 wounds before getting tabled. So as expected, dude got to make another low effort boring video to show off his toy that even with everything basically sided in its favor, barely works.

Imagine spending that much on a titan and not even having a dice tray.
Also that lancer was a waste, should've taken another Questoris or a Porpheriyon instead.

Reality is, a better list would have just been canis rex and a bunch of armiger warglaives on a table with real terrain and at least objectives as the warlord titan wouldn't have had enough weapons to take everything out before being out-scored. Or cutting out the running it at 2000 points bullshit and having the knight player actually take 3500 points of knights but then the titan would have just been tabled in 2 rounds.

The comments are also full of idiots claiming the knight needs 200 wounds, a 2+/3++/4+++ and all sorts of other dumb shit. Simple fact is they were never good, they're never going to be good, and they're a hobby/trophy product that GW doesn't even market. They're not even good as a "2v1 take down the boss mini" type of narrative game because well.. they just die too easily due to volume of fire and don't have enough weapons to retaliate.

Watch him do another video in 6 months where he replaces the power claw with a volcano cannon or something and another "bat rep" since he was bitching about the sueprcharged plasma gun only being strength 12.

Fucking hate the current terrain meta where it’s symmetrical if it’s not just bare. Even poorfags tossing random things from their place on the table has more soul than this.

Anyway I’m big on terrain. Like let it tell as much as story as the battle you’re playing it out on. One of the things I do for Into the Dark terrain is add fun little things like piles of bodies or demonic altars or just piles of tools and discarded weapons laying around. Something to breathe a bit more life into an already great terrain set that makes you feel like you’re exploring an abandoned hulk a bit more.

$70 for chest-high walls? Eat a bag of daemonette ladydicks, GW.

I look for 3rd-party terrain objects that are compatible with GW models, like shipping containers a little taller than a standard space marine.

Got spare decals? Put them on terrain as graffiti.

I wish they made some kind of mini stencil that'd let you paint on clean letters.

Silicone nail stamps. As in stamps for women's nails.

Funnily enough, Goobertown Hobbies(who has also does his own stupid lolcow worthy shit at times) is getting ready to sell these

Here's a video showing how they're normally used, and there's a ton of stencils made cheap in china. The only difference is goobertown's are a little more 40k/scifi specific

You can even just paint directly on the stamping pad itself and then apply it to a surface. Here's some letter stencils for nails for $7 in different fonts even https://www.amazon.com/PH-PandaHall-Stamping-Alphabet-Stainless/dp/B0DFYB44LC

So much of it is overpriced to an insane degree. I get wanting it to be more 40K-esque but I’ve been collecting bits and bobs of things to build up and paint as terrain which has been far more rewarding than dropping cash for stuff. A few terrain pieces that came in starter sets are a good start but you can really flesh out a board with some creative thinking and trips to an aquarium store

Other than the decals I’ll also print off some of those mini propaganda posters and put them on terrain (printed off the nice color printer at work). I did attempt to free hand End and the Death’s “The Emperor Must Die” phrase on the wall in blood, didn’t like how it looks and just made it a giant blood splotch

Terrain is a major reason I want a 3d printer. I got infinite time, can print in pieces and with an airbrush painting it is fine.

But I'll be creative. The rubble set up doesnt do much for me. Like i get it, its a warzone. But farmhouses? Bridges? Canyons? So many options and its just rubble
I have seen fake flowers used as vegetation. I once used rocks (which are normally my bookends) as part of a fortress.

Slowly getting through more techboys

Got some orkz printing for the wife, gonna try to get us both enough together for a game of kill team to start with.

Are there any good galleries with like...cutely painted warhammer? She wants to paint her orkz in pastel colors and most 'cute' stuff I've seen so far is either Tau or Marines

I like to think “why would commanders want to seize this location” when planning terrain especially if its objective based for points. Rubble okay? But even in Stalingrad there were reasons why Pavlov’s House was so important.

I've seen some great pink sisters on insta, vamp.artistry as well as laurathekiddo.

The former does the Adepta Bimboritas, the later is more creative with her nids.

My wife and I both gagged after seeing that girls face front and center on every single post (show off the miniatures, not your horse face), but the vamp.artistry account has some sick stuff, thanks a lot!

This is a game changer for me, my freehand lettering is just freaking dogshit. And knowing that they sell these of cheapo chinese trashlots means I get to avoid Hobby Tax, for when Greenstuffworld inevitably sell their version, at a cool $50 markup. Much appreciated.

My understanding is they work better with nailpolish than normal acrylic paints(even goobertown has said they're going to sell theirs with "special paint", but even then the kits are cheap enough that they'd be worth a shot plus even then nail polish is cheap and comes in a million colors anyway.

I'm sure GSW will not only mark it up, but in the past they've done dumb shit like file patents for crap they didn't invent to prevent the original creators from selling shit in certain countries. The company is fucking trash and it's a shame because they don't have to be run like that and could still be plenty profitable.

I remember Talk Tabletop doing an episode on how you shouldn't talk politics at the table. People are there to have fun, and it always leads to a slippery slope that results in groups falling apart.

Goobertown was in the comments ranting about how playing games with nazis is bad and blah blah blah. Basically a huge over reaction to such a milquetoast opinion.

Same. Even objective markers. Yeah, token 1, 2, and 3 is fine, but (here's dredd talking about the old days again) I think it's more fun when it's even basic stuff like an escape pod, a damaged cargo crate, a terminal.

Also, I'm a sucker for urban themed tables. I get the pragmatic reason why everything is a field with 4 L shaped bits of gothic rubble, but urban tables are such a spectacle to look at, and having means to flank or hide could add to the game. Rooftops only skimmers and jump packs can reach, things like that.

Oh he's done worse than that. Couple years back when morons were whining about the fact that GW has people who receive product early for reviews, painting, etc. that there are NDAs involved someone(smalltime painter) sent a copy of their NDA to goobertown so he could cover the language in it. Goobertown instead forwarded it to 40k thot NornQueenAlexis(there's a couple other 40k thots with norn queen in their name, but it was her specifically) in an attempt to get in her pants and she just flat out dox'd the painter. She got so much backlash for it and shit on goobertown in the process she walked away from 40k shit for about a year claiming she was moving to finland or some shit(don't believe that ever happened) and then tried outing goobertown as being some creep who was following her to conventions. It's entirely likely the failed career manchild living in his parents house after moving back in with his cats to paint minis for a living was being a creep, but the idea that he was going to shit like Adepticon purely to follow this dumb bitch around is absurd.

Then on top of that goobertown doesn't actually know how to play the game, and has posted videos bitching about other people playing the game using terrain as cover like cowards and he just dies because he deploys a ton of infantry on the deployment line out in the open like an idiot.
Apparently being a retard and leaving your troops standing in the open with their asses in the wind to just get shot at in a game with guns is being a "casual player". The argument about balance updates happening too fast for someone who only plays a game every 1-2 years I can understand(to a point, at some point just accept you don't actually play the fucking game maybe?) but bitching about people using terrain and not wanting to do so yourself has nothing to do with that.
Screenshot 2025-03-23 212620.png
This is from a 2v2 game he played. Not only does he refuse to take anything but infantry, he's deployed his dark eldar out in the open. So what happens? His piles of t3 4+/6++ bodies get scooped off the table practically immediately. Also makes his army painting videos practically worthless as he doesn't ever actually paint armies, just solo characters and the occasional small unit for the most part. Another youtube painter Miniac posted a video just the other day, he's been talking about army painting for years, but did a collab with Eons of Battle and basically moaned the whole time that painting a couple units of dark eldar was such an ordeal with the Eons of Battle guy painted a pile of stuff for him. Spending 20 hours on a character, or even a few hours on a squad leader is fine but acting as if everyone is going to do that for basic shit across an entire army is absurd and their "tips and tricks" for painting quickly don't actually mean anything because they don't actually use their own advice.

To be fair, a non-practicing non-painter bragging about their unpainted and terrain barren table must be ludicrous to see.
I am still not hate watching him though so you can freely correct me if I am wrong in my assumptions.

I have an FDM printer and I actually wish I had a 20w laser cutter. There are LOTS of very cheap and even free MDF lasercut templates online and a whole board will cost you ~$20 in MDF. Apparently this isn't the stone age and you can get lasercutters pretty cheap now too. Unfortunately you need a shed with high ventilation for the wood smoke to be pulled out of it, but I may see if someone in my local scene doesn't either own one or is willing to split cost on one if it gets everybody some better terrain.

MDF terrain certainly looks worse right off the cutter of course, but it is easy to file and cut wood and gaps are easy to fill with wood glue, then you can step up the appearance considerably through standard terrain scratch building techniques and get a final result that is even higher than anything you could reasonably resin print at a fraction of the costs.
