In regards with the video itself, I remember an old internet animator suggested that what makes a good parody is if you can take the characters and switch them out with someone that's not from an IP or from the thing you're parodying and still have the jokes land. The average person should be able to watch it and still find parts of it funny whereas the people who are fans of the original content should find it even funnier because they get the reference. It's meant to enhance the content, not be a crutch for it.
