mald gets shit wrong speedrun.Don't you know he's got 20 years experience hiking and mushroom foraging?
no, you cant identify species off of sporeprints alone, you can use the color of the spores to narrow down somewhat and that's about it.
no, dried mushrooms dont only last 3 months, they can last bunch of years especially if it's stored in a freezer, and you can always rehydrate. some that i grew and dried, i ate 3 years later and were still good.
no, mushrooms on trees are not 100% giveaway that it's a dead tree, there are mushrooms that are even symbiotic to trees and plants.
location and species of the fungi also matter, some feed off deadwood meaning it's not always a fungi problem, it's been dying beforehand, and if fungi grows on a pruneable part of a tree, you can most likely save the tree. another thing is that there can be decay fungi and Saprophytic (two negative types i know of). the chanterelle mushrooms they picked up are symbiotic
according to the video and the images he buys all his materials premade and spends a fortune to have it get fucked up cause he has no idea about positive air pressure or that his tents aren't self contained, he's probably missing yield from contamination ending his flushes early even if there's no visible mold. he could save 95% of his costs if he just inoculates and gets the materials himself, it's cheap to pasteurize substrate, and with the amount he spends he'd save a ton buying a prebuilt or DIY laminar flow hood albeit slightly more tryhard i guess, but way more fun. also him calling it a 'harvest' is noob shit, it's called a 'flush' because you can have multiple in one (actual) harvest cycle, and it looks like he doesn't take advantage of this.
another note is that he started his mushroom project years ago, i'm pretty sure he's just throwing out all organic materials and starting completely over every time, even though the used substrates are now rich with organic matter ( unused mycelium ) and if you were to pasteurize and reconstitute with maybe a little gypsum and vermiculite, depending on species you could probably reuse it, also building agar dishes can be fun because you don't pass down filial genes through spores, i believe it's only through cloned mushroom, and your gene selection will make that strain your growing stronger.
Paul Stamets: Mushrooms are the premier recyclers on the planet
probably old news but worth reminding people, this genius got scammed by a single person ( not even a group of convincing mexicans ) that were supposed to remove an entire garage to make room for the shed he's growing fungus in
