Even though it's non-canon and even outright contradicts Tolkiens lore, I for one am glad to have another game at least based in Middle Earth.
The Tolkien nerd inside me is very excited.

Shadow of Mordor did have most of that in the end, but it was lackluster. You die or wait a day, and you have to watch an annoying cutscene of orc bosses killing each other, some of whom you've branded. That's how it dealt with the infighting you cause. The very last mission had something of a cohesive army, but that mission was made fun only because for the rest of the game the best you could hope for were a couple mooks getting in a slap fight. They could implement bigger, better battles, but SoM isn't an RTS and it would be a mess if they did that.I'm curious how the Nemesis system has been expanded. The original design for Shadow of Mordor supposedly included you forming a cohesive orc army and using that to attack and take over other factions and playing them off against each other, and something like that would make this game shine.
Did you play past the first half? Núrn is much more varied in terms of environmentI hope they add a more varied environment. SoM gets boring once you realize that all there is to do is run around a slave labor camp killing various orcs and find worthless trinkets.
More disabled orcs please you ableist shitlord.I loved how diverse the orcs in SoM were personality wise. There was a drunk one, a nice (!) one, a crazy one who even saw the elf, someone who always complained, a coward, a diseased orc etc.
Soooooo I hope in the next game there are less straight white male orcs and more proud poc orcs with various gender identities/pronouns and sexualities.
And it looks fucking awesome.
Oh it's certainly a poorly disguised cutscene.
But the original's gameplay was almost like watching a cutscene already so this is most likely a decent representation of what the sequel will be like.
I actually like that your army of orcs serves a purpose. I'm probably miss-remembering how it went but I believe in the 2nd half of the game when you get the follower power they make a huge deal about building an army and having to get the ships needed to sail to one of the villains lair and there is all this build up and all that happens is you take like 5 guys with you.Yeah, this gameplay preview of Shadow of Mordor makes up some bullshit about Ratbag being a 'completely unique' enemy and has way more dialogue than any of the captains ever did, but all the basic elements of the Nemesis interactions are represented.
I doubt the bits where the orc followers intervene to save you will be quite as dramatic as they are in this, and I'm sure a lot of the dialogue is padded, but still. More indepth followers, conquering fortresses, and expanded RPG systems? Yes please.
