And that's just the US. Indian scam call centers target every Anglophone country and while I imagine that Cucknada, the Yookay, Straya and Kiwiland aren't nearly as lucrative as the US, I wouldn't be surprised if they extract at least another 5 billion dollars out of them. It makes perfect sense why scam call centres are protected and why a lot of "police raids" are just a show they put on, the call center that gets "shut down" oftens reopens at the same location with the same owner, but under a different name, or they have enough "shame" to also move their scam operation to another building.Well, they do steal upward of 25 billion dollars yearly from the US alone via scams, so that part checks out.
The only other country I can think of where committing financial crimes against another nation's populace is a decent part of its income is North Korea with its infamous Room 39, which is a criminal organization that was literally started by the state and earns money for the Nork state and the Kim dynasty through financial fraud and drug dealing. The difference of course is that the Nork state is openly hostile to the US while India maintains (very heavy airquotes) "friendly" relations.
