Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Heritage Auctions had a huge anime cel event today. Production items like sketches and storyboards were also being sold. There were also some gems related to Osamu Tezuka and Topcraft, the animation studio that did animation work for Rankin/Bass and later became Studio Ghibli.

Osamu Tezuka Letter to Mike Glad (1987)
Fans of Osamu Tezuka (1928 - 1989), the godfather of manga and legendary creator of Astro Boy, Black Jack, Princess Knight, Kimba the White Lion, Phoenix, and more, are in luck with this exciting lot! Tezuka's work changed the way manga and anime were created and perceived, telling enthralling stories in ways no one had done before with dramatic action and a wide range of heartfelt expressions and emotion. This lot features a typed letter from Tezuka to Mike Glad on official Tezuka Productions stationery dated 6/13/1987. In the letter, Tezuka replies to Glad's earlier letter sent in 1985 and expresses his interest in "The Moving Image" (the animation museum tour that featured a wide range of influential work in the medium) as well as how proud he is to be invited to exhibit work at Glad's art show. He mentions a few of the series his studio has produced for both children and adults, only scratching the surface of his contributions to animation. The letter has been signed above his typed name and is a testament to Tezuka's impact and lasting influence. The 8.25'' x 11.75'' letter is presented in a 9.75'' x 12'' folder and is in Very Good condition with only light edge and handling wear and faint creasing.

Osamu Tezuka Funeral Handkerchief and Program Card (Tezuka Productions, 1989)
Offered in this lot is a unique set of items, a handkerchief and card given to attendees of the public service for the funeral of the legendary Osamu Tezuka (1928 - 1989). Widely credited for creating the aesthetic known as anime, Osamu Tezuka is regarded as the "God of Manga," paving the way for the artistic movement with his seminal masterpiece Astro Boy. Due to his prolific output, pioneering techniques, and innovative redefinitions of genres, he is often considered the Japanese equivalent to Walt Disney (who also served as an inspiration for Tezuka's art). The memorial service for the prolific and beloved artist offered this handkerchief adorned with three of his most iconic characters: Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, and Sapphire from Princess Knight. Along with the handkerchief, guests were given a program card expressing gratitude for their attendance, included in this lot. Also included in the card's envelope is a traditional salt packet, sometimes given at Japanese funerals so guests may purify themselves before entering their home after the service. An exceptionally rare existing set from the historical memorial service, this handkerchief is still contained in its box, and the card and salt are still included in the Tezuka Productions envelope. Overall minor handling and edge wear with some foxing on the envelope and a small crease on the handkerchief box. The condition of this unique set of treasures is Good to Very Good.

The Hobbit Original 6-Panel Storyboard Sheets Group of 3 (Rankin-Bass, 1977)
Goblins descend on Bilbo and the dwarfs in this foreboding series of 3 sheets of original 6-panel storyboards for Rankin-Bass's 1977 animated adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. Modern storyboards were pioneered by Walt Disney Studios in the early 1930s as a production planning aid, and these Hobbit storyboards were created by noted anime director Takashi Hisaoka at Topcraft studios in Japan. Topcraft was known for their long-standing partnership with Rankin-Bass Productions creating their films' hand-drawn animation. Upon bankruptcy, Topcraft would bifurcate with Hayao Miyazaki and others forming the lauded Studio Ghibli and the remaining animators continuing the R-B partnership under the new Pacific Animation studio. Topcraft's story would eventually come full circle under the Disney umbrella with the company's acquisition of both Pacific studios and Ghibli's western distribution rights. These original storyboards are rendered in pen and ink with mixed media to image areas of 3.5" x 2.5" on 13.75" x 10.25" 6-panel storyboard paper. Each sheet features pasted on English captions with graphite Japanese translations describing the scenes, and are noted as pages 35-37 in the upper right corner; please note panel 133 on page 35 has been trimmed and reattached with tape. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning and minor tape staining, overall this rare and historical trio is in Good condition.

In fact, Yukimura basically forgets what he's writing about later on, he doesn't realise that he's writing a story about actual barbarians, who were also victims at times too (he actually shows that part). He's writing a story about Vikings, but he hates them & European culture in general, this isn't even including the troons in Nordic land, the mary-sue that shouldn't exist to begin with, feminist shit happening that doesn't make sense neither in the era nor even from a logical perspective in context, etc. Post-Farmland Saga is just shit due to shit he believes in infecting the manga.
I didn't think it was fucking possible, but this faggot manages to make Naruto look like a violent edge lord.

Just imagine if Current Arc Thorfinn was in WW2. Against the Germans. I don't think the author really thought about how the times were back then. He tries to add in "nuance" like that psychopath Thorfinn ran away from in the past. Or the current enemy tribe where the one in black just murdered his chief to usurp his authority. Now, Thorfinn wants to have a truce with these fuckers. Just imagine Thorfinn just surrendering to the Germans because he could. Oh, he gets to have his conscience clear, but everybody else still gets to fight. That's exactly what happened in the manga, with half their population dead and things are about to get a lot worse until plot armor arrives to save the day. I've never seen an author miss the point entirely. The Scandinavians may have hated their past, but that doesn't fucking mean that the average Nord is about to keel over if a piece of shit just walks into his house and starts hurting his wife and kids. A gutless coward does that. Not a noble pacifist.

Now that it has been confirmed we will have male gay villain's, it will either be very based or extremely cringe.

Garterbelt being a child molester was enough of a gay joke to be funny.
I demand a conversion camp skit played completely straight. Cattle prods and all. Except it actually works and zaps the homo away.

Either going to be peak or a crash and burn.
Assuming it's still the same kind of show with the same kind of humor they are going to be some sort of inversion of initial expectations. Panty and Stocking are lazy and self-centered angels, Garterbelt is a priest who is actually a pedo-rapist and former mobster, Scanty and Kneesocks are prim and easily embarrassed demons, Brief is a nerd who is a natural freak in the bed, etc

Anyway, I'm going to be happy as long as there is lot of shitty engrish in the OST

Fair enough. Maybe they'll be SuperStraight TM.

NGL I always thought the soundtrack was peak, especially D city rock

Do normies even remember one punch man? I stopped reading after the cluster fuck that was the monster arc.
Was that the part with that Garou character? I got bored with it there but I wondered if it was worth picking up again.
You're gay, you look like you do,
He looks like he does...what?

What are good sites for reading manga these days? What do you all use?

I just torrent and download CBZ files
Any site recommendations?
