UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I have a feeling that with the whole bureaucratic downsizing thing and the anarcho-tyrannical trend in our enforcement systems in general; Kiwistan has little to fear, they'd much rather spend office hours going after hamster forums and the like, I imagine the actual burden for US based sites that don't actually make any money to steal will be in the realm of TV loicensing letters every so often.

@Bog-standard Poster I specifically recall one very obvious pig sniffing around a few months ago in General Discussion but what are you on about with the "active data gathering" should we actually be worried?

Worried? No. Cautious? absolutely.

If you're not posting on a VPN you really should be. These are unprecedented times and all parties in government want the authoritarian internet bills passing and people/website being made an example of.
It goes back as far as, if not further than, Cameron and his rape-blocker.

Combine that with how we saw people literally noticing on twitter, going to jail for a long time. And just like the riots, as the heat comes down on starmer and labour and especially if/when, God forbid, another attack happens, he will come down hard on anyone on the internet to make him look like a good guy.

We live in internesting times.

Edit: And the farms are known as a misogynistic, racist, hate-site full of right-wingers. They just shilled a TV show about kids stabbing people because of online hate. Think of that in the context of this site.

There's a lot of discussion ITT about "what will it take to get the people to rise up". Honestly the very fact that we haven't done so already makes me think that there is literally nothing that will motivate the British people to do so. The line hasn't so much been crossed as it has been left in the dust several hundred miles behind us.
If the answer to "What could the government do to make you stop paying taxes?" is nothing, then you're a serf that will slowly fade away with time. My local MP has done nothing since becoming our Labour MP other than vote exactly as the government does on every issue. How can they have my community's interests at heart? The farmer debate happened with at least 50% of the constituency being farmers, and they not once spoke to them. He was very happy to get gifts from companies and unions this past year, though.

I've asked people who complain about the government what the government would do to make them want to rise, and they either stop complaining or, in a roundabout way, say what the government have already done. It feels like we live on a giant prison island.

I've said before that their election mandate is false; they received fewer votes than Jeremy Corbyn. An unprecedented 5th/6th party divided the vote up more than in history.

Completely toothless 'legislation' anyway. It doesn't even say you have to do anything specific apart from a 'risk assessment'. Since no example is provided you could simply put 'I see no risk' and that's your 'assessment'.

Naturally they could only enforce this against companies with regional headquarters in the UK so at worst only sites like Google or Facebook will have to comply.

Josh announced on the Telegram chat that Kiwiflare will no longer authenticate UK users by the way. Anyone posting from the UK will need a VPN.

RIP to our homies who aren't gonna make it, you may or may not be missed.
Isn't that capitulation?
It's for our own good unironically, gotta remember ours is the judiciary that awarded Sammy Smith damages against an anonymous account so theoretically anyone who gets caught hassposting here is liable for 18 million so he's doing us a favour by enforcing gatekeeping, would have been nice to have a little bit of warning though.

That's what concerns me, having no warning, as I mentioned in the other thread.
The other thing is, who does null hate more, the british government or the british people. Would he pit one against the other for the laugh?
Others say no because of NZ shooter, but after what happened with Janke, I just don't know.
