Salt, Pepper, and The Adventures of Schizobunny - A containment thread, because Bad Webcomics has been laughing at this bitch for half a year straight now.

So nobody notices these wild and jarring changes in personality? Kai realized something was up before Piper revealed herself but none of schizobunny's other friends notice this? Niko and Harper seem to hang around completely different cliques and Piper has amnesia when another personality is "out." There's apparently never been a moment of "Hey, dude. Wanna hang out?" "Who tf are you?" Besides, Niko and Harper don't seem to be trying particularly hard to be Percy.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Bird and Turd are so obnoxious that I actually started missing Piper. She seems to be the only one who is even halfway reasonable (relatively speaking).

I went through Pipe Up! from the start to see if there were any pages I hadn't seen and wtf is this?

Am I supposed to believe this town is one step away from lynching the gays when this thing is allowed to work in a school?
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but SnP didn't put much thought into this at all. If alters can talk to each other, why use Discord bots of all things? How would any alter be out of the loop if they can let each other know, or if they can co-front? Quinn spoke to other alters several times without fronting, so if Harper and Piper can split seats like Percy's a mech, then why not co-front more often? It's not just inconsistent, it's very pick-and-choose in a way that both makes it look less serious than it actually is, and shows that Percy's mind is so insane that it's completely broken.

I missed Piper when Harper started being creepy towards Kai. Like wtf.

Also no, it's not believable to have Mr. Roy be a teacher in a supposedly homophobic town. Parents and other teachers alike would have a problem, and the administration wouldn’t have it.

That abstract background on the 4th and 6th panels makes schizobunny seem like he's tripping balls. He probably is
Might as well be. Thinking two different people are controlling your body is some trippy shit.

That's what makes picking holes in it so much fun! The more petty it is, the more fun.

One thing still bugs me. Mr. Roy might be a play on "mystery" (because I can't think of a suitable play on words to do with flamingos) but what about Mrs. Plithivor?

The only word I can find that even slightly fits is "piscivore" i.e. something that eats fish. There are snakes that eat fish but that seems like a bizarrely specific reference. I would write it off as reading too much into it but Percy (Walflower) and Kai (Fenik) both have surnames that were chosen with purpose. This is gonna drive me insane.

I believe it is a reference to one of the snakes in the Ga'Hoole book series: Horance Plithiver

Okay when I saw that Pipe Up had the protagonist have a Pluralkit conversation with himself in the first few pages I couldn't stop laughing.
I just realized that some people here might not know what this is, so I'll try to give a brief summary. Pluralkit (and Tupperbox) are bots that the user can use to create profiles, and then said user can message as those profiles. Tupperbox specifically was originally meant for roleplay, but was later used as a way to store and type as "alters." Pluralkit basically operates the same way, the only difference being that it was meant specifically for "plurals". If you go on any "DID server" on Discord you will see servers filled with bot messages with intricate names and emojis belonging to "systems". Sometimes "alters" from the same "system" will end up having long conversations with themselves. I recognized it immediately from the first few pages.

The "plural community" is a weird rabbit hole by itself. I can't really cover it by itself in its thread, but it's extremely bizarre from an outsider perspective. Things down to teenagers convincing themselves that they've been abused and brainwashed by cults that were debunked during the Satanic Panic, or the plural trend getting so out of control that a major mental health hospital had to create a video about it because even researchers were getting confused as to what's actually true to DID, and then said video having to be taken down due to harassment. There's a thread on this forum that covers the community but it seems mostly dead now.

I thought that when I saw the rainbow pin on Kai's backpack, and was extremely confused. Might as well add a pink triangle.

Good lord, that’s horrible. I’m disappointed but sadly not surprised that attention seeking snowflakes on the internet are willing to potentially make treatment for actually mentally ill people more difficult just because they want to be like “hehehe, I have multiple people in my head, I’m not neurotypical~!” SnP and her ilk are just enabling that.

FWIW Kai does imply early on that his parent/family aren't too impressed with his choices, but that's it. He still openly wears pins, acts flaming etc.
If you overlook Kai's pins/other stuff, it does seem like the character you're supposed to sympathize with is Kai, not Percy (or, the Warren or whatever.) Percy acts in such a disorganized way where he's rude to his mother for no reason, makes weird sexual advances, goes off to smoke weed and act edgy, etc that it becomes less sympathetic even if the character is supposed to be mentally ill. Kai has his own problems and still puts them aside to try to understand Percy. But SaltnPepper makes a point outside the comic that the character you're supposed to sympathize for is Percy, and not Kai. Why? I don't know. If I had to guess, it's because Percy has the more "severe" disorder and oppression olympics says that his rules go over anyone elses.

I haven't read Children of the Light outside what was posted in the bad webcomics thread, but it seems like Iya and Tashi + Ru plays out in a similar way. Even out of context, it seems like the charcter you're supposed to agree with is Iya, and Tashi just needs to learn his behavior is unacceptable even if he has a developmental disorder. But Iya is the "problematic" one. I have no idea how.

Mathematical terms have actual meanings. You can't just use them wherever, snowflake.

more on this guy here
kitsune-rokko (formerly just a mtf troon, now a troon "system" in his 30s [...]
as refresher for anyone who's coming here from someplace other than Bad Webcomics, because I have a feeling that Rokko is going to become a recurring character

If only the author agreed.

Kai is supposed to be sympathetic, but the story is about him "confronting his own shortcomings." i.e: "correcting" his ableism.

"Internalized ableism is when I don't want to put up with my friend's shitty behavior." This is something you're supposed to grow out of when you get out of highschool. I genuinely hate this type of thinking that got spread from Tumblr and infected every other platform, but at least I am hopeful it's mostly just teenagers. Fortunately I've never seen anyone get away with this in the real world.

I also found this fanart that I actually kind of like:

Can't believe I only just noticed schizobunny standing like a bird when he hops on Kai's desk :story:
I like the concept, and little details like Percy's and Quinn's eyes being missing, but with the fuzzy cartoon animals it's hard to take seriously.

If only the author agreed.

The page in question:

Looking at this again, yea SnP forgot how people work. This isn't ableism, this is shock. It's the kind of shock from realizing your friend thinks he's not only not your friend, but a different person entirely. Also, Piper's dialogue indicates that Percy denied, and tried to suppress, his schizophrenia. Obviously this didn't work. Now his mind is fractured and he's slowly killing himself. So this ableism talk is twice as stupid.

I also think it's that Kai doesn't accept the Warren's existence right away, because it is insane, and that we're supposed to accept their mistreatment of Kai because of whatever brought on the fight, plus it's just how they are. We're supposed to think Harper harassing Kai is "spicy" and Niko lashing out at him is justified because, to paraphrase Pixyteri, "he didn't see Percy's body and what it's doing." Either the color-changing eyes do happen and somehow no one's noticed this for ~10 years, or only the audience is supposed to see them, and Kai is somehow supposed to differentiate Niko's body language from Piper's when he's never actually met Niko before that point. If Kai was, like with him noticing how Piper's body language is different from Percy's, he'd actually pick up on that and pull Niko aside. He wouldn't say Piper's name because he'd still remember that the different identities were supposed to be a secret. Kai bringing up Piper's name was a very contrived way of justifying Niko's behavior. It threw Kai's previous characterization out the window. He's a caring and attentive person. He's observant enough to know that something was off with Percy. Percy being differently abled or whatever doesn't mean that mistreating Kai is justified, given how much shit Kai puts up with, and that's what SnP doesn't realize.

We don't see Kai going through a redemption arc, despite the intro dialogue. We see a crazy person needing a healing arc, or a redemption arc of his own, that's not happening because the author's priorities are screwed up.

I 100 percent forgot that SnP didn't do most of the art for this one. I wondered why most of the animals look different from one another. As much as I dumped on Mr. Roy, he's a pretty convincing flamingo.

Schizobunny still has that gay ass "I'm about to fall on my face" rabbit walk from Children of the Light, though.

Oh right, I forgot Pipe Up was the one SnP comic with actually good and distinct animal designs.

I continue to be sad that this isn’t some kind of story about a bunch of ghosts trying to pilot one possessed body. That would be way more interesting than yet another gross misrepresentation of a serious mental illness.
Kai is lying for the alts now? Percy doesn't deserve him. Although lying to cover for the Warren's version of Ryder probably isn't for the best. So maybe Percy does deserve him.
