Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

Honestly just play the fan translation. Even if it gets an official release it'll never be what fans want from it because they'll have to make changes
Did they ever give a reason why it's not translated over to America because I never played earthbound but people make a huge ass deal about it.

There's no official reason but in all honesty it's probably a whole lot of reasons working in tandem, like the tranny rape scene, the depiction of a dead child, homages so blatant it's practically straight up stealing music, vulgar and crass language, whatever the fuck is going on with the oxygen refill, etc.

Okay wow that sounds like a creepypasta.

I've never seen such a trash Direct. Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven probably have their fans and I'm glad they got what they wanted, but if this isn't a sign they're phasing out Switch 1 fast then nothing is. Not even Zelda ports to go out on, that's crazy.

At least this means Switch 2 is going to have a stacked launch window.

I might just be too old but I didn't understand the convoluted virtual game card shit at all, no matter how simply they tried to explain it. Is it just some Steam Family like thing?
I also saw some legal text at the bottom about it requiring internet to use the virtual game cards.
I don't see how it's any better than how game sharing currently works. In fact, it's probably a downgrade with a cute flair. Before you simply downloaded games from whatever account you wanted, as many at once as you wanted as long as that account was on the system and you had an Internet connection. I guess it's supposed to be a big deal that you "only" need to use the Internet once now (every 2 weeks) but it seems you can't let someone use the game anymore unless you do a local connection.

I might be misunderstanding something but it seems stupid. It should've at least let multiple people play the same game at once.

Give me rainbows if you want, but the more I think about it, the more I think the execution of virtual game cards is kind of brilliant. It aims to emulate the experience of lending a game to a friend, without the abuse-of-the-system that can come with digital game sharing, while minimizing any risk of the game being lost/damaged/your friend refuses to return it for some reason. They definitely thought it through.
It's pretty decent from a business point of view too with the lending thing. Say you're lending a game to a friend and they have two weeks to play it, there's a good chance that person will enjoy it enough to possibly want to get it themselves. To Nintendo it's almost like a demo/trial period for that person and there's going to be a lot of people ending up purchasing those games themselves instead of repeatedly asking to lend the game every two weeks. I'm presuming the two week period is exactly for that reason, to incentivise people to buy the game for themselves instead of having to constantly ask to lend it more and more.

That whole thing of being able to take lent games back too is brilliant. I've had friends lend games where one or both of us forgot about it, so not having to worry about that and being able to take the game back so easily sounds great.

The specific reason I have seen is the battle system.

To put it simply, they have to replace the soundtrack for a Western release. Which would require reprogramming the battle system. Because it's dependent on the soundtrack to work properly.

So the cost to rerelease will be too high to make it worth it, especially when it'll probably go to Switch Online where they don't earn enough money.

Yeah the "little boy has hot tub baths with literal bearded Tranny gypsies" scenes... I don't care for them, it's gross and weird - and oddly specific. Wonder what happened to Itoi growing up... because that shit isn't quirky, it's damaged.

the "little boy and his friends trip out on psychodelic mushrooms" bit doesn't help either

Like I said there's a lotta shit that wouldn't fly with modern Nintendo of America, it's definitely not any one thing.

The very simple reason Mother 3 didn’t get a localization is because the Japanese version took until 2006 to get finished for a GBA game. The DS had already been out for two years, a translation would have taken even longer (plus consoles in general live longer in Japan than the rest of the world), Earthbound wasn’t that popular in the west to begin with, and the whole thing just wasn’t worth the effort. That’s it, no other reason.

>but muh tranny rape scene-
Not a rape scene, and not trannies. The game is abundantly clear about the magypsies being bizarre alien anomalies who are all more or less bystanders aside from (spoiler).
>but muh stolen music-
Earthbound was way worse with its stolen music and it didn’t have to be changed for modern rereleases.
>But muh [insert kid-unfriendly element here]-
Just give it a higher age rating, problem solved. Let Treehouse tone down some of the more questionable pieces of dialogue (as they typically do with localizations anyway) and it would easily get away with a Teen rating. At best, these might work as reasons it’s not being brought over now, but certainly not pre-2020.
