The absolute worst thing about hobby subreddits is that they're constantly flooded with poorly executed projects that only get attention because they feature some trendy political message (usually a leftist, US-centered slogan). These posts get upvoted into oblivion, while any attempt at an actual discussion about the hobby itself is usually pointless

sorry I'm late replying to this but I've been playing catch up with this thread and this is my biggest pet peeve. not just that but pity upvotes. someone will make a craft that looks so fucking godawful a retarded toddler could have done it, and everyone feels bad so they give them up votes and awards and "keep going! this is amazing!!! have you thought about selling these???"

i had a tranny in one of the makeup groups I'm in on Facebook use mascara as black lipstick and eyeshadow to try to do a goth look and when i tell you it was something out of a horror movie.... half the comments were praising him and feeding the delusion.

what's the point of even wanting to be apart of hobby communities online if they are just one big retard circle jerk

It’s literally for things like writing contests where upvote visibility gives an unfair advantage to entries with early upvotes.

Not to imply it’s not used as censorship mode everywhere else but it’s a legit feature for writing subs. Back when they were usable.
