There's an excellent book called "The Day after WWIII," which was published in 1984, and meticulously detailed the (publicly available) civil defense plans of the United States, and how even seemingly obsolete and cumbersome civil defense plans could be vital for COG and winning a nuclear war. These deep storage sites are part of those old school plans to help rebuild America after a national disaster. I have similar issues with the plan to integrate Starlink while divesting ourselves of things like landlines
I can see the argument for preserving some hard copies of things, but I'm pretty sure if WWIII occurs, the most vital thing we need to rebuild is not ensuring the pension continuity of retired Federal workers, which is what that cave in PA stores...

Why not? After the war, the retired feds will still be retired feds that worked for their pension. It's no different from any other records. The point of deep storage is to have a hard backup of everything, so that we aren't just totally listless. They have similar hard copies of social security information, military service records, and plenty of other things. Sure it's not stuff that's immediately important, but that's why it's stored at the bottom of a defunct mine.

The idea behind the deep storage program was that, after a nuclear war, the federal database could be essentially reset to right before the bombs dropped using these records, that way there's a clear continuity from the pre war government to the post war government. The records are more important than just the information they hold, they are symbols of normalcy and order. It's so the President can come out after we drag ourself back to our feet and say "yes we're the same guys, we will honor the pensions of retired feds, disabled veterans, and social security recipients."

if the source is gone a simple screenshot doesn't suffice. a screenshot doesn't even need a source.

that's why you want a screenshot with an archive link in it for ease of distribution and reproducibility/integrity

late reply but it it's a singleplayer game from 2013, everything that has been said and meme'd about being a divisive sequel is long over.

The sad thing about infinite is it had so much potential to be a great game. Look up early footage of the game and the story. 2k really fucked this one up.

Ken Levine fucked it up by being so over budget, past deadline, and disorganized.

2K eventually had to step in, bring a guy in who specializes in finishing games, and wrangle the team into actually finishing the game.
What's telling is that nobody remembers it anymore
It does have one long-lasting legacy

I thought SFM was the software of choice for those videogame porn animations?

About the Signal chat leak, is the journo behind in in jail facing execution, or it's yet another case of journos betraying national security for clicks and suffering no penalty?

The journalist who leaks the chat was smart in waiting until after the strikes concluded so that he didn't interfere with an ongoing military operation. Had he leaked them before the strikes the administration would have grounds to go after him but because he didn't and the the administration wants to call the information not classified (which they can because the OP is concluded) means the journo essentially didn't do anything wrong, he was privy to information he shouldn't have been but released it in a non harmful way and the current administration would look like shit for going after him. The real problem is the staffer who added him to the chat in the first place. He should be at minimum fired for potentially putting national security at risk but I haven't heard any punishment falling on him yet. The staffer's info is already in this thread but I can post it if you want.

some dumb fuck pushign a mop or scrubbing a toilet shouldn't be paid a lot... Thats just retard logic. I can literally train a monkey to do those jobs. Necessary != complicated job

Pay rate is difficult to gauge but I don't subscribe to the mindset of easy=low pay jobs. I won't PL to hard but I'm a fabricator, I do a lot of shit that I find easy but let's focus on just one aspect for the argument, welding. Anyone can weld, seriously I mean anyone, it's easy. Doing it well however is a different story. I won't bore you with technical stuff but there's a big difference between Jonny two thumbs laying a bead and a dude who knows and cares about what he's doing. I've been to amusement parks that have nice and clean bathrooms that in contrast have absolutely shit structural welds holding rollercoasters together that I don't trust. People should be paid for the quality of their work, the importance of that work matters too but that's really subjective and the topic of a different discussion. Sorry if that's a lot of rambling to say, if a guy wants to clean floors and toilets for a living and do it to the same level of quality that I put into my work then I think he should get a good wage. He's risking his health just like I am and just like a person who sits in a desk all day with no physics activity, just in a different way.

Bol fell off so hard, but it's true that Elizabeth (and Overwatch) were the impetus for SFM/Blender goon material.

Back in the day there was this network called a "contact chain" or "accountability chain," which was basically a failsafe for organizing members of government agencies and private companies working with the government. It was stupid simple, you were given a person to contact. It was your job to, in the event of a national emergency, to contact your designated person and relay pertinent information to them.

the entire reason the social and political factors arose to allow trump to run and win twice was that the deep state created at some point during the late cold war completely sold all of that shit up the river. by the time bill clinton was president this shit was not true at all. this Eisenhauer era idealism was how everybody pretended the world worked when i was a kid but... none of this shit has existed as long as i've been alive. george bush used the us military to just blatantly kickback israeli defense spending to their own pockets and it was so blatantly corrupt that the people decided BILL CLINTON was a better option. and then his son did the exact same thing again and nobody batted an eye.

Beyond all that, if you were around at the time, the hype for BS Infinite was off the charts. It was an endless parade of puff pieces like "The Citizen Kane of Video Games", "Video Games Are Finally Art", and "The Deep, Resonant Message of Bioshock Infinite". It was massively hyped up to be The Thing, and for a while, dominated game journalism.
All that shit happened for OG Bioshock and GTA IV too, although somewhat more deserved since those were far better games in general

they literally ran a fucking gamergate campaign on bioshock infinite that people still blindly repeat about sexism and elizabeth to cover for the most blatant example of band aid game design ever shipped. the reason elizabeth is shit is because she was an excuse to compromise on level design, they didn't spend effort putting items in the game world for the player to discover because elizabeth spawns them in front of you - and somehow people are not willing to take that as a worthwhile criticism of a game with "bioshock" in the title because of an aggressive ad campaign by journalists during peak gamergate

i could probably write a full blown academic dissertation about how ass bioshock infinite was but every aspect of the game's art direction, level design, and basic plot outline clearly indicated it was rushed out the door before anything they were proud of was ready to show off and the bare minimum viable product they shipped was so rough around the edges that they had to resort to nostalgia baiting and mystery box bullshit to get people excited for it before release,

the marketing for that game was just them showing off an exterior street corner shot of a movie theater playing star wars in 1977- which was also the only scene in the game where elizabeth uses her time portal powers the entire plot of the game revolves around - anyways the single time she uses those powers its an attempt to break the fourth wall and blatantly manipulate the player's emotions using nostalgia to a real life thing. game is astoundingly fucking shit

Better than damn pineapple.
No, it really, really isn't.

JD Vance wanted to wait on attacking Yemen. Tulsi Gabbard stated in the official Annual Threat Assessment that Iran doesn't have nukes and isn't building a nuclear weapon. Pete Hegseth I'm not completely sure about. My guess is he isn't fully clued in on the reality of Israel's skullduggery. They would probably prefer a proper neocon warmonger instead of just a soldier who is also a Christian Zionist.
I'm really not in agreement with Vance at all. I get the concern he had but the Houthis, even though esoteric, caused global inflation by forcing Europe to spend millions clearing cargo ships. You can scream Jews and jump up and down all you want, but that's the reality. The Houthis were causing inflation all around the planet to enrich themselves and blowing them the fuck to kingdom come is in the best interest of everyone.

Ugh, I don't want to bring up forum decorum but is it really necessary to use an archive site if you both link the tweet and do a screen shot of it? Archiving tweets is a real pain in the ass.
Yes, it is 1000% a NECESSITY. As of right now, KiwiFarms is the only place I can easily find a majority of these news articles. The Mockingbird Media State has gotten very efficient at memory holing stories. At this point, if it's not on KiwiFarms, I can't find it. These news outlets are complete dystopian faggots and delete articles, and change titles all the time. There's news stories I simply can't find anymore solely due to Google being Big Brother and saying "You're not allowed to remember this". Which is incredibly frustrating in real life when I tell someone about an event and then simply can't find the article because they changed the title and buried it. Always, always, always fucking archive. These faggots will memory hole anything and everything they possibly can because they know the average human can't remember anything from two weeks ago and has piss poor long term memory.

it's all fake anyway, we all know they're hiding a stargate in there

SFM is simple and accessible, which is good to get fast and easy results, but anything beyond that you want a "proper" tool to give you more freedom, but that comes at a cost.

it's also not that surprising, porn has always been a driver for technology. sure, lot of AI porn is low effort slop and there's loads of it, but it still leads to improvements over time just for wanting to beat your dick better.

The sad thing about infinite is it had so much potential to be a great game. Look up early footage of the game and the story. 2k really fucked this one up.
it's still good, for all it's flaws they put some real effort in it. but I also never treated it as a new chapter in videogames, just a nice game I enjoyed a lot.
dlc tainted that a bit with levine being butthurt about 2 and retconning it, but gave us prime liz porn in excange, so still a win in the end.

2k isn't really to blame, or only in the sense like ea giving studios too much rope to hang itself with. irrational was sitting on the game for like 6 years iirc (which was a long ass time back then) churning through like 2 and more games and never getting off the shitter. that's why they brought in the gears of war guy to get something out the door, then canned everyone right afterwards. vox populi all having their own weapons are relics from the multiplayer they were working on and scrapped for example.

EDIT: also even back then people understood turning the game into full-blown escort quest (even as a 11/10 version with all the technical bells & whistles) would suck complete ass, only thing missing would be underwater sections. also not worth the effort with diminishing returns when for the most part you're just running around shooting mooks, you simple can't have setpiece interactions "just like the game trailer" the whole time, it would've always been limited to certain moments and places.

I am wondering how exactly the "leaks" lead to a Mossad agent getting capped when said "leaks" have no names, locations, identifying info or such.

As for the Bioshock Infinite sperging, I think it was a decent game, but the DLCs destroyed a LOT of what made it good. Including trying to whitewash the commie faction who was shown to be just as evil and bloodthirsty as Comstock by making a the leader neggress attempted killing of a child from a capitalist into a "actually she was doing it so Elizabeth would kill her and become a stronger person".

>They went after him like they did me
Fucking bullshit. I'm so sick of these fraudsters getting away with their crimes simply because they gave anti-section-230 orange nigger a few nickels.
Just wait, Bankman Fried the scamming cabbage-haired kike is getting away with it next. What a shame for Bernie Madoff to not be born later.

tl;dr: Gold CDs

The CDRs become unreadable because the metal foil oxidizes and changes the reflective index. this happens because they are made using cheap substances that oxidize. If you use a non-reactive metal like gold, this isn't an issue.
Why can't a normal raid or zfs array be used? When one drive has a problem, just change it for another drive.

They absolutely could crack down on spam, it’s just that they don’t give a damn.
It's worse than not giving a damn. The spambots make the metrics look good. The spambots that just ping you with random likes or invites to a private chat are minimally annoying but make their site look more attractive to the advertisers. They actively want the spambots.

Plus there's something to be said about not wanting whatever the fuck is happening with the last few forums out there and the AI-enabled spambots to happen to X. As long as they're corralled into the ecosystem of "be minimally annoying and don't disrupt real conversation" they don't evolve into "generate entire fake United States with 500,000 twitter accounts all living in "East Kansas" with random engagement spam to drive attention to someone selling Pressure Cookers or something" style AI bots. Yet, anyway.

There was a lot of gaslighting about Bioshock Infinite, but I would argue the first GG-like situation in the industry that had an almost identical rollout was the Mass Effect 3 controversy. Every single person who wasn't a Bioware developer or game journalist agreed the ending was 24-karat shit, nothing about it was justifiable, and the DLCs, if anything, made it worse. Every single week we saw new articles fellating the game harder and decrying the playerbase as entitled, if not outright evil, for taking issue with the ending being so bad as to undermine the entire series up to that point.

The phrase "artistic integrity" - one that the users of the EA Forums jokingly mocked as "autistic integrity" was the primary defense brought up when people mentioned that the original ending of ME3 (the one that leaked) was way better, and the new ending was effectively done by one person - Casey Hudson - who effectively pulled Neil Druckmann on it and unilaterally decided "this is how it is now, this is my vision" and purportedly blew off everyone who told him it was shit.

So much of how things happened during that era were essentially a dry run for what would happen during GG, and I feel like it's a big reason so many people refused to be gaslit when GG happened.

Mass Effect 3 was 99% a great game, with an ending that was worse than the ending for Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2's ending mission with all kinds of different variables that would change who in your team lived or died. It was great. Then you were given 3 choices that all amounted to the reapers winning. It was like being slapped in the face.

It felt like Star Trek if the borg just won at the end. How disappointing.
