Today is Coming Out Day, and usually I talk about how there's something I'm not comfortable enough to talk about yet and move on. I'm not fully sure I'm ready to say this, but better to say it before going even longer without telling everyone and making things worse. I'm transgender, and starting with the next video and stream I will be presenting as a woman.
I want to focus on the channel in this post, of course, but if you're sticking around and want to know what's changing about my other social media platforms, the tl;dr is that not much is changing. I've always done my best to make my content something that people could enjoy, regardless of things such as gender, and I'm going to continue doing so. That said, on Twitch I'd like to get into being a Vtuber, but that's down the line.
But if I'm trans, and presenting as a woman, what about the 250+ videos over the last two years? I don't plan on doing very much with those. I've wanted to delete a few of the really old ones that nobody watched and I didn't like, and I finally did, but that really only amounted to about ten videos total – everything else stays. On the one hand, I hope any aspiring trans YouTuber can someday see the channel, see how I sounded before and how I'll eventually sound and inspire them. On the other hand, for everyone who likes my other videos, I don't think it's really fair to completely delete them. Of course, the channel will still be about Kirby, with Fire Emblem also being a big focus. Advance Wars too every once in a while. Maybe I'll make occasional videos about Mario or Sonic? My community seems to love those games.
And, for the record, the pitch increase that started a while back has nothing to do with this (I don't sound like a woman at all...). That's just more in line with how I wanted to sound for videos, how I sound when I'm excited and performing, in a sense, instead of just reading a script. I know it was sudden, but after the first video or two nobody seemed to mind.
I don't want to give away my whole life story here, since this is more about the state of the channel going forward than anything, but I've known about this for a very long time. Half of my life, at this point, I've known, but there's been a lot of things in life preventing me from being able to come out like this. I'm more than happy to go into specifics for anyone who would like to know, especially if you're trans yourself and looking for some help, but again, that's not the point of this post. I'm just saying, I know I'm trans..
I haven't been working on my voice as much as I should, sad to say, since, as I'm sure many of you know, I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to it, but with the little training that I've done, I think I'm almost tolerable of it. I'm going to take a week break from videos (not streaming) to get to that point, but going forward I'll be using a more feminine voice for streams and videos. I need to get the 2,300 subs for the Wii stream, so I can't be gone too long! Still, I do NOT expect this to be a smooth process, considering my stream schedule is 6 hours minimum and I don't have much experience beyond practicing, but I hope you'll ride this out with me – we'll get to an ideal point eventually.
Everyone who sticks around during this rough transitioning process, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. I'm sorry it took me over two years to find the courage to come out like this, and I can't blame you for being confused, or even making mistakes. Especially if you've followed me for a while, changing pronouns will be tough. That's fine, we'll get to a point where she/her will come out more naturally than anything. That being said, if you're specifically anti-trans, or something along those lines, I can't force you to stay. I urge you to reconsider, and I'd love for you to keep enjoying my content, but, again, I can't force you.
Also, I'm aware that four days have passed since the last Wii Anniversary Stream poll, but there's something important I want to talk to everyone about. The final round for the first party games can wait until tomorrow. That said, KEY/KDC was about as dominant as I thought, so Smooth Moves and Strikers Charged will move on, and one of KEY/KDC will be played, with a poll deciding which of the two later on.
Thanks for reading.
