It's more the fact it's infinitely easier to cheat on an emulator than an actual cabinet, and therefore the standard of documentation and proof required for an emulator record is significantly higher than on a cabinet. One of the biggest problems, aside from the fact that the timing might be different on different versions of the more inaccurate emulators, he wouldn't be playing on stock hardware either, which means he probably isn't playing on the stock joystick that forbids certain types of movements, which makes it far easier to avoid wasted time transferring from ground to ladder and vice versa. It cuts out a lot of the precision that makes playing Monkey Dong such a feat.
