Accusing someone of causing a suicide is pretty extreme, just short of accusing someone of murder. In Defamation cases you usually have the option early on to just retract your statement/make some kind of amends, I don't know why you would want to die on the hill of alleging, without evidence, that someone caused a suicide.
I don't support the judgement and think people should generally be able to talk shit and that suing someone for defamation is in most cases a bitch move except for extreme circumstances but Karl Jobst doesn't come out looking that good here either imo, he kind of looks like a weaselly schmuck.
I'm on the fence about the judgement but on the sole issue of him falsely accusing someone of causing someone else to suicide and the fact he tried to put it out there as fact it is pretty much the dictionary definition of slander. It can totally ruin someone's reputation to go around saying shit like that.
