Thank the Good Lord, this is so cathartic I can't describe it. Out of all types of video game players, speed runners are the ones that deserve more ridicule than the rest. I say this as a guy who's main hobby is playing games.
Removing the trannys, the autists, and the ego-driven weirdos from the equation, the subject matter itself genuinely makes me nauseous. Sitting down for hours, playing the same game (or worse, the same level of a game) to see who can beat it the fastest, then competing against all the other losers is perhaps the most isolating thing I can think of. There are hundreds of great games, but this freak preens about beating a level of Goldeneye faster than anyone else. And it only took him tens of thousands of tries. Time that could have been spent improving himself or making more money for his family. The definition of wasting your life.
Imagine being his wife, daughter, father, or mother. Imagine explaining what it is that your family member does.
"My husband is a video game streamer."
"Oh that's cool! Does he play new games to show off the latest releases? Or fast paced shooter games where he needs to compete against other players? Or something that shows off his creativity?"
"No, he plays the same level of Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64, a game that came out nearly 30 years ago, tens of thousands of times to shave a 1/10 of a second off a score no one care about."
Sure hope that 20x20 pixel icon of a trophy comes with a seven figure cash prize, or else you not only wasted your life, but your hobby-turned-career just put your family in such a deep hole that you could never possibly claw your way out of it.
