Almost everyone who drives is going to, at some point, have more than themselves and one other person in their car. This is regardless of whether or not it's one of two cars you own. It's just going to happen. Most people therefor want their truck to be able to have a back seat. It's really simple.
If you're hauling things long distance because you have a trailer of some sort of recreation (horse trailer, camper, toy hauler) then you want to spend those hours on the road in comfort. Even then, why wouldn't a tradie working want to be comfortable? Therefor they have lots more features these days.
Fuckcars people hate them because they don't believe people should drive. And it's easiest to critique someone who has no apparent "need" for a big SUV or truck because they're trying to pretend their position is reasonable. "Well, I just think cause of GLOBAL WARMING WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE you shouldn't drive a big gas guzzling TRUCK MY WORST ENEMY/FEAR because you don't work in the mines or whatever."
