I used to think semi LMGs were unpractical too. The price point for me makes the M249 undesirable, even at the 8k-10k price points I've seen them at. I own 2 semi auto MG42s and a full auto. Full auto is great fun and all but mine is chambered in 7.62x51 which means I am blowing $50 a belt for either 3 seconds of ripping it or 30 seconds roughly for bursts. One semi is 8mm, and one is also 7.62x51. They are fun in the sense you have a MG42 and they are quite accurate. I do not have an immediate shooting area I can exceed 100 yards but I feel like they'd preform well farther than that. I can't think of a better phrase but the semis have a better "return on investment" I.E shooting a full 50 rounder on a semi, taking time with your shots lasts 2 minutes or so, even slamming the trigger as fast as you can lasts up to a minute. I think my last outing with the full auto I no joke blew $500 in ammo and the entire running time was maybe 2-3 minutes during a 8hr range session with family and friends. I rarely shoot the full auto for myself anymore unless I am trying to fix an issue or just want to pretend I'm at Normandy for a belt or two. Also you can get 3 semi 1919A4s, maybe MG42s if you find some of the 5k ones, maybe DP27s if you have someone build them for you, for the price that shop was selling the one M249. Hell you can even get 3 fightlite raptor uppers for that price and those are a-lot more flexible since binarys, FRTs, and super safeties exist.
I mean I guess some people drink alcohol free beer too but... why

Anon, what are you trying to tell us?

While I agree, there are people who have dropped binary triggers into them (someone should make a FRT for one) to give them some more oomf.
It's probably more practical to just buy a beltfed AR upper and slap an FRT into that. Though those Fitelite uppers are already super expensive, I think around $6k.

A buddy of mine has now destroyed two PSA uppers just trying to get the barrel nuts off. Not sure if it's insane gorilla torque, something crazy like Rocksett or both, but they really don't want you taking their stuff apart.
If PSA is actually Rocksetting barrel nuts instead of grease they're, well, nuts.

Holster shopping is gay and the build-a-bear workshop sites typically don't have reviews or have views of belt loops.
Any recommendations for decent companies that do semi-custom leather holsters? I'm looking for an OWB for my new innawoods cannon.

El Paso Saddlery was recommended a while back, and they have a wide variety. My complaints include them not having more than one picture per product and their neat gimmick holsters don't cover the trigger. What the fuck does the lining look like, would I need the lining so the button snap on the inside doesn't scratch my gun? What does the belt loop look like? Fuck.
Diamond D is apparently highly regarded but I both hate the look of the vacuum seal and I've got bad experiences with that kind of high friction fit loosening too quickly after break-in.

a lot of PSA AR-15 uppers i've put hands on had far over-torqued barrel nuts. no idea why, but iirc they aren't using loctite or rocksett. leave that to doublestar - two rifles from them and both had red loctite on the receiver extensions and grip screw.
semi-custom leather holsters
galco and lone star are pretty good. and if you don't mind the wait, you can also go with Privateer or nightingale leather. triple k are actually very good leatherworkers, which is their core business (because high quality magazines sure isn't it...).

I just got a Veddar Comfort tuck to replace my Galeco King Tuck (or whatever).

Veddar seems to have a better HK mold as this fits my P30 and my VP9 better than the Galeco. The horsehide was a nice upgrade too, glad I went for that.

the lining is yellow (pigskin i think). its only to protect the leather from the sharp edges of the gun. if its one of their duty holsters its just a regular belt loop. about 2 inches wide. the button snap metal does not touch your gun because the leather folds over and covers it.

the triggers are exposed because elpaso sadderly has been around for 150 years and mostly makes holsters for revolvers and single action 1911's where trigger exposure does not matter.

I think, even as unlikely as a 1911 or a single-action revolver going off unintentionally is, I'd still feel a little uneasy not having the trigger covered. In the event the gun manages to get cocked, that's not a lot of pressure on the trigger to set it off.

it can't be cocked because of the strap or loop going over the hammer.
Look, man, I'm distressingly retarded. If something can possibly, or impossibly, be fucked up, I will manage eventually.

Also, 1911s are carried cocked and locked, so you really just need the thumb and grip safeties to be deactivated. Extremely unlikely, but it really doesn't cost any extra to not have to deal with in the first place.

According to the reps that CMP M1 should be coming out sometime in 2026 and under $2000. It'll be a combination of new and old components, and although the receivers had machining lines the other new manufacture parts (like the gas block) didn't. Its probably related to all the receivers being prototypes. Supposedly tanker variants will be coming down the line eventually.

Great to hear. I wouldn't mind a new production M1 in .308 at all.

Already have my 1943 Winchester.30-06

from my experience, the magic lower bound for the current AR market for something decent is around $700.

If you're getting one online, KAK Industry puts a nice one together for about that price.

They probably use a torque wrench and just go until it stops..... Makes assembly faster.

They still have some they've rechambered that are original manufacture. Expert grades in .308 have a brand new barrel and stock. $1150 plus $35 shipping. If you want a .308 Garand probably worth getting one of those as it's cheaper and still has some history behind it. In a way the new production stuff is cool, but at the same time I think it is a sure sign that they are genuinely running out of parts to make originals and it's kind of sad. If only somebody would do something about all of them that were in South Korea that Obama blocked from coming in. If they still exist

I want a .308 Tanker Garand for some reason.

I can't put my finger on the "why not just an M1A?". I think its because the ping is just "neat" and that if I wanted what the M1A offered I would just get a FAL instead.

A new production one would make it "guilt free" as I wouldn't be cutting up an actual Garand to make one.

Tucker Gunleather and Privatier Leather. I own holsters from both companies and they have been excellent. If you want to spend a bit more and are willing to wait several months, then Nightingale Leather is my favorite custom holster maker.

I saw this on Reddit. Absolutely amazing listing.
