Tariffs don't effect electronics between the U.S and Japan, and even if it did that doesn't explain why they're selling digital games for 80 dollars, because tariffs 100% don't effect digital releases.
Speaking with a coworker today, he told me there is something funky about the physical cartridges now where some games won't release physical except to be a "game-key card" to download the game from the Nintendo store. They don't contain any game data and knowing Nintendo, that probably means you can't share it or resell it as that key will already be tied to your Nintendo account.

this is a replacement system for the current one that they have for games that don't justify a cartridge release, but spergs want cases for. currently, they print a code in an empty game case. this will give the physical collector an object, which is a big criticism people have had of this system.
