Probably not death, but he’ll likely get life. Dude was pretty idiotic to just do a plain not guilty. With the chronic pain, the fact he wasn’t on UH’s plan, a rich family/can afford a good lawyer, and the fact NYC has the strongest insanity case laws, he could’ve had an actual shot of “not guilty by reason of insanity”
The reason they don't give the prisoners the date of execution before the day of is because when they did that the prisoners would commit suicide before they could be executed. Also, America is basically the only country with the death penalty that doesn't execute by hanging.
Death may be preferable to living in a state psychiatric hospital for the rest of your life being tied down and force fed pills by giant gorilla CNAs from the Congo.

The fucked up thing is if I am on death row but attempt suicide, they'll still do their best to revive me so they can eventually be the ones to kill me instead. Depending on the venue, the jury may have no say in sentencing, and may only be allowed to take in the facts and decide whether they fit the law for sentencing.
