For all the shit we talk about other countries, there are 3 countries in the protected class,
England, France, and Israel

For these nations we have gone to some of our most foolish failures and greatest triumphs, spare me our pre 20th century relationship as I speak of America of 50 states, not the nation BECOMING the United States of America.

We went into Vietnam for who?
We Re fulled who midair en route to the Falklands?
We shared our nuclear technology with who?

There are countless examples, it truly is the case that no matter how much we might bitch and moan should the need arise we will never let another nation get as close as Germany came to destroying any one of you, it awaken something deep inside the American spirit watching our closest societal, cultural, linguistical, historical, and strategic partners and FRIENDS almost be consumed though few will admit it.

America stared straight into the abyss of a world ALONE, not in the hyper realistic sense but how one might feel if they found themselves abandoned in a strange land where no one spoke your language or acted like you did. So while the Jews say "never again" for their survival, Americans, remember without saying, "never again", for their sanity.

I know most Americans will give me my Constitutionally deserved trash cans and puzzle pieces but if push came to shove they would realize the truth of my words.

When the BEF was cut off at Dunkirk, 400,000+ men including the Belgians and French units, The very flower of England of the very British Empire seemed cut, best estimates from the leaders on BOTH sides of the Channel was that 30,000 men would be able to be evacuated and that would be with great difficutly and great risk of loss of ships.

With this knowledge Vice Admiral Bertram Ramsey, as ordered by Prime Minister Churchill implimented Operation Dynamo, an utterly desperate attempt to bring their young men home under hostile air, without much support and knowing the threat of total annhilation of their ground forces would be in wait if they failed, this was the plight of the enlisted sailors and officers! But so dark were the circumstances that the totatly inedequate 40 odd destoryers were deemed so in need of supplimental capacity that the call was made out to the civillians of the Great British Isles,

Such is the character of Old John Bull that within the hour, without ANY means of defense against, bomber,s mines, UBOATS, enemy ships, a veritable armade of civillian ships made the perilous journey across the english channel to bring their brave soldiers back to safe shores. LONNNNNNG walk for a short drink of water but moments like that are why places like the UK arent just "owed" the special relationship we have with them, you guys have earned it. You are at a low ebb right now, happens to the best of us. Downsize the overseas stuff and focus on making your little 4 state solution work, a house divided cannot stand.

That's true for moving factories, but not for reducing tariffs. The short-term goal is to get these countries to lower their existing tariffs and trade barriers.

I predict half the countries on Trump's list will significantly lower their tariffs within six months. Some will stay strong, but many will bend the knee. Some will lower non-monetary barriers after signing trade deals with Trump.

Can I get a QRD on the tariffs? Aren't they supposed to protect the homeland industries or is this mostly used being by Trump admin like sanctions? Do we have to buy from US-based Black owned businesses only now or something?

The trade barriers include things you really can't change without fucking a whole country up, like VAT. Some countries extract the majority of their fiscal revenue through VAT instead of income taxes (Trump has said he'd like to move for the US to become such an economy, in fact!), so they really cannot remove or lessen VAT without a massive fiscal deficit, which utlimately leaves them in a lose-lose situation. Some of them are in the same situation as the US, without the "exorbitant privilege" of the dollar, so they really don't have conusmer economies which means they really cannot lossen tariffs without fucking themselves up, they are just not sufficiently industrialized and are also not sufficiently wealthy to have a strong service sector. This is the case of some of the worst offenders like Vietnam or the SEA countries. I fear this doesn't really make sense in any way other than import substitution because the newer manufacturers don't really have any other way to grow their own economies, again a lose-lose situation. Mexico and Canada might be able to survive because they both have service sectors, and Canada specially has a much more stronger consumer economy (Mexico is still developing that part of the economy, it's wages have been steadily rising which is what you want when you want to develop a local consumer market). All in all, I don't think you'll see many countries that are taking American jobs backing out of tariffs (Mexico specifically did not have much tariffs with the US and that's one of the big offenders, they really cannot do anything on that front beyond reducing their VAT but they're one of those VAT-heavy countries, it's also why Mexican VAT is 8% at the border, Trump negotiated that in the USMC, they wouldn't agree to a full VAT reduction, just a frontier one).

From what I understand: The prior tariff announcements on Mexico and Canada are staying as previously announced. Russia isn't on the list because we've already sanctioned them to the point we aren't trading with them anymore.

Australian Prime Minister now announcing this is all sad and they'll cry in their Foster over it, but won't do anything.
