A lot of the places online require you to have a Japanese phone number in order to book tickets (and won't sell to you without one).

The way I found around this and the address requirement was just using my hotel's phone and address. I love going to baseball games when I'm traveling there for business trips and get cheaper tickets for being a fan club member.

They are indeed solicitors, but check your local laws before smoking somebody. They're usually in store reps that get sent out to panhandle and some places (AT&T stores) will often hand out lists of addresses for people to hit up.

Or he just doesn't care. Walking and drinking / eating is not really considered rude. It's just something not done in Glorious Nippon. At worst it's impolite but as a gaijin he can get away with it.

That's actually one thing I miss about Japan. Chu-hi. Can't find it here or on those occasions I do, it's just not the same.
