It's weird, furries used to be universally hated when I was younger, I don't know what changed (pun not intended) that made them so resistant to criticism. It's a really vile fandom and no kid should be in it.
If I had to guess, it's probably because a lot of the fandom's basically allied with the woketards and similar; furry circles have become a haven for gendercult shit, and vice versa. You know, the fandom being able to successfully frame themselves as "victims" of "cyberbullying and unjust hatred" from "trolls" and such because of their defending of sex shit. The fandom's paper-thin veneer of innocence - that they're just a harmless group of people with interests in animals - was enough to deflect a lot of suspicion from older folks who would've otherwise protected their kids; doesn't help that the furfags would often find ways to sneak freakshit into otherwise innocent places. Can't tell you how many times I came across furry sex shit while going across Google, and that was
with SafeSearch on.
Doesn't help that a lot of the newer converts got drawn in because the fandom offered a sort of "escape" from how shit IRL could be in some cases; the fandom preys on cases like bullying victims and abusive/broken homes and tries to draw parallels with the impressionable to draw them in. It's not a new thing, either; been a thing since the beginning of the fandom, though it definitely picked up steam in recent years due to the fandom pushing out the saner/more "normal" parts of the group in favor of an ever-increasingly slippery slope of degeneracy.
This all started because of the COVID-19 lockdowns and virtual schooling which caused a fuckton of bored middle/high school aged teenagers to discover the furry fandom and flood it. This then caused furry "influencers/content creators" to cash in on the phenomenon by aiming their content at kids, much of it of a suggestive nature. This includes the whole Changed fandom and the Roblox spinoffs.
I'd say this is also a solid reason; with how many people were stuck inside, going stir-crazy from the scamdemic, it's no surprise that the fandom was able to start getting more people in. Lack of care/surveillance from parents and the fandom's online presence gave them a huge opportunity for grooming more people into degeneracy; people wanted some escapism or relief from the world being so shit, and the fandom took full advantage of it.
I don't like to post often, since I worry about shitting up threads with autism or doing something foolish,
Hey, don't feel too bad; long as you're not trying to defend this type of shit, I'm pretty sure most of the people on the Farms won't mind. Yeah, there's some boards that're filled with particularly autistic assholes, but this isn't Reddit; we're glad to be able to call these freaks out, first and foremost.
He's either a predator or extremely desensitised, he made a video once explaining his introduction into the furry fandom, and he was EPI'd himself as a young minor. I can't tell if he knows this is wrong, or if he genuinely doesn't see a problem due to his own experience.
Insensitivity is possible, there's been a few cases where adults are so messed up that it just doesn't register that they're being creepy... but I'm leaning more on the "pedo" end of the spectrum, especially with some of the artwork you brought to light - thanks for that, by the way, rather informative. Modern-day fandom's a haven for this shit, and if there's one thing I've learned from about this group years ago, it's that the darker interpretations are often the correct ones.
Granted, it does depend on the individual in question; I know a guy who never had any kind of sexual interest in the fandom, and he left the group after seeing just how fucked it was getting. There's also the matter if the individuals in question actually make attempts to harm/groom minors; these people tend to be adults, and it's ultimately their choice on whether or not they continue or break the cycle of abuse.
In the case of Garo, though... yeah, it's more likely that he's a pervert, given the crap he's posted - it's all textbook groomer shit. The suggestive poses and context of certain memes make it obvious.
