Actually, I’d argue that drug addiction programs work better in the US than in many countries with publicly funded healthcare. Why? Because there is a profit motive.

Any mid sized American city has a handful of methadone clinics. Even many smaller cities in the Midwest. So these private chains compete with each other to fill the need, and earn that Medicare money. In Europe, instead you typically have a few publicly funded centers, and they don’t give a fuck whether more are needed or how far you need to travel, since there’s no competition.

Sure, American junkies complain about clinics earning a profit on them, but junkies love to complain and don’t realize that all those clinics wouldn’t be there if not for competition.

Although I was arguing for weed legalization, not hard stuff like Heroin.

Meh… Theoretically and philosophically I’d agree with you, but look at what has happened in the places that legalized it. People smoking weed everywhere. And with it being legal, many don’t really have a reason to quit, so just live high 24-7.
