Mass Effect Andromeda: Shitstorm Edition - RIP Biowear

Ah well... back to the weeb games.

Tumblr seems to be enjoying Andromeda though

Weeb games are doing well right now.

Nioh sold over a million copies its first month, which Team Ninja was fucking blown away by. They celebrated with a gold armor set for absolutely everyone who has the game, and extended the promo gear time for the good of all the late arrivals who are only just now arriving to see what all the weaaboo fuss is about.

Nier: Automata sold over 135,000 copies its first few days, despite constant whining from Social Justice ideologues. In fact, Taro Yako, the game's designer reacted to the controversy flamed by the usual suspects by asking the actual fanbase to share their 2B porn. Which they did. It's been praised for its emotional storyline, developed characters, and complete mindfuck of an experience.

Senran Kagura : Estival Versus isn't a new game by any stretch, but managed to sort out of five labyrinths of legal issues; Estival Versus is finally getting its Ikki Tousen DLC, which has been trapped in negotiation hell pretty much forever due to how licensing works in the USA. Whereas most companies would see a lost cause, XSeed saw something it was willing to fight to the death for on behalf of its customers. Say what you will about its games being weeaboo fanservice stupid, XSeed takes fucking pride in that stupid and cares about its audience.

I bring these up because each of these show a case of a developer being legit thankful for its fanbase, rather than seeing them as an entitlement or something they're owed. That calls back to what @Lazuli and @Secret Asshole brought up earlier in the thread: The devs who never shut the fuck up about how progressive they are? They're making games for themselves and themselves alone, but are demanding they be successful by default because they cover a specific topic that they've been informed is suitably right-thinking. It really drives home how closely they follow the ol' Brianna Wu paradigm.

So wonder if you can bang your sister in this game.

And if you can't, I wonder how long the "literally current year" crowd will come along to shame Bioware for not making that an option.

Also, anyone remember when the selling point of games was the game? What is this nonsense where it's apparently cool to spend five hours navigating some idiotic dialogue wheel just so you can get an awkward, three-minute cutscene of your character and a weird alien doing some heavy petting?

Hahah, 'too attractive'. Good fucking joke there.

Yeah, they are acting like they DESERVE to be successful. People wonder why they want communism so bad, its because when they finally defeat capitalism, people will be awakened to the truth and actually buy their products so they will be successful! Everyone will be woke and capitalism will no longer hold sway, and everyone can be ugly!

But little do these dumb cunts know, Western Media has always been highly prized in commie countries and smuggled in however it could. Look at the USSR and China. China eventually just fucking gave up because they couldn't fight it anymore. They will continue to fail because they have no self awareness and they will NEVER have the captive market they so desire.

Also there are other devs, like CD Projekt who love their fanbase. But generally, Western devs have been fucking up over this constantly, appealing to idiots and losing market share with some exceptions (GTA being a big one). I also have to laugh at Neir. I just see people fawning over the female protag in that game while every Andromeda image I see is basically just mocking it. Except maybe on tumblr.

Its only going to get worse as Japanese devs are realizing how thirsty the PC market is for their titles. These idiots are going to get more competition, not less. Expect the salt to get way, way worse.

I think thats kinda the way thing has been across the board in the Western Game Development front. The Division recently did what ME3 Multiplayer did, and people are now leaving the game, on top of banning the word"gamergate" in chat which was just bizarrely hilarious. Except maybe Blizzard, but I think that was due to Overwatch being a big hit for people who yearned for that TF2 feel.

Now it almost seems like a Japanese resurgence, you've got Japanese games and it's spin offs coming to PC, as well as some console ports. Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown for old school beatem up/RPG style stuff, as well as many others. Hell, even that new Senran Kagura Beach Splash looks interesting, instead of the typical gory blow peoples heads off, you just hit them with super soakers.

I've noticed it too, people were complaining about the same thing in Destiny as well. I have no idea what exactly the Western market is doing, but it is still acting like it has 0 competition and that people actually listen to Polygon and Kotaku (fucking lol at Polygon who didn't even publish a Nioh review because it was too hard).

I'm pretty sure Tumblr just wants Adult Visual Novels with Aliens banging. The whole Jennifer Hepler "I just wish I could skip the gameplay" is probably quite on the mark for the market demo they have right now.

Think of it as the millenial answer to the Mills and Boon novel. Or the Kirk and Spock slashfic

I have an acquaintance who worked for BioWare during the production of Inquistion. He was on the programming and design team, and he felt like a lot of their gameplay ideas were shafted in favor of focusing more on what the writers wanted narrative-wise.

There's an ongoing meme that the current batch of writers they have have turned the game into an overglorified slashfic. I'm really interested in seeing how true that is.

That moment when you can't tell if something's from a Das Bo Schitt video or an actual character render.

I thought you were joking about this. You weren't.

Did the devs for that play the fuck out of Splatoon before they made that? Granted, it wouldn't be weird since it's apparently the biggest new IP launch in Japan since Pokemon.

There is no difference between this crap and those evil japanese games they hate so much.

Yeah there is. Those actually have decent writing. And a better grasp of human behavior.

Their double standard is well documented, even involving Japanese games. It's not necessarily a writing issue. They just have to have the Tumblr Approved™ stamp on them.
