Sadly, you are correct. The reflexive "We're not American!" is so deeply instilled in people, esp the boomers, that he can legit say that and scrape by. CBC and Radio-Canada have spent the better part of 50 years making their trade in that mentality.

If PP were smart, which he is not, he'd tell the boomers that the TSX and RRSPs are down even more than the DJIA and how much do you hate America versus having money. Cons are such cucks.

25% CRA exit tax + going to somewhere like the USA they'll pull your Visa now over parking tickets if you criticize Israel or tinyhats. That's only going to get worse and more spurious with an expanded list of no-no's for the next 4 years. Mexico, ever the mixed bag, Euro countries case by case, many nations changing or with leaders horny for the apocalypse. In Japan and even SK to an extent you are always free to die of loneliness as a gaijin. China pre-pamdemic was a possibiltiy but is now a very bad idea.

Canada was worth fighting for like 10-20 years ago I guess, who knew. That leaves AB indepedence and Annexation. If they can kick the jeets out, it's the best option however a referendum would be heavily interferred with by Ottawa, the WEF and say half a million deranged radicals, firewater lovers and gimmigrants that would do anything to spoil a white vote if it came down to it.

I'm more convinced than ever that behind all the Boomer speak and sohpistry the Boomers are just single issue voters. Money. If they weren't already out in force to vote liberal, Trump detonating financial markets for lols is going to get every single one of them out voting now. If it was 98% of them voting before two days ago, now it's 100%. PP will never risk any statement involving boomer bucks. Even the most milqtoast Ezra Levant rant pointing out that they vote liberal because they've only benfitted from housing and aren't in the workforce to be efffected by Trudeau's mass immigration has them calling out for him to be holocausted.

The Conservative Party of Canada has dropped a Quebec candidate after he harshly criticized Liberal candidate and Polytechnique shooting survivor Nathalie Provost online.

Simon Payette will no longer be running for the CPC in the Berthier—Maskinongé riding, a spokesperson for the party confirmed in an email.

"This individual's conduct is completely inappropriate, and cannot be excused," states Sam Lilly. "He will not be a candidate."

In one of several social media posts and comments, Payette accused Provost, an advocate for stricter gun laws, for using the tragedy to "grease the palms of anti-gun extremists."

There is no 25% exit tax and the people that claim there is are grifters and retards. I work in Accounting and Tax and what the only thing is a deemed disposition if you change residency. For residency there are primary and secondary ties, primary ties being weighted more and those being (1) your primary place of address (2) where your spouse and children are residents of (so if you work in the US for 2 weeks on 2 weeks off but your wife and kids are still in Canada your US salary would be taxed by CRA). Last one is deemed residency where if you spend longer than 6 months (183 days in another country and you aren’t just a 20 something kid traveling for a year, as your primary address would still be your parents house in Canada) then you are deemed a resident of that country. This is why Canada snowbirds have these travel apps that help them track their days spent in Florida / Arizona.

Secondary residency ties are things like Financial accounts (RRSPs), social recreational clubs (Gym memberships, library cards), Government ID (drivers license)

Canada and many other Western European countries tax based on residency (US is the exception where they tax expats the same as residents)

This means when you residency changes your tax and investment accounts have a deemed disposition. It’s taxed the same as regular capital gains. There is no additional exit tax.

If you’re a broke nigger like most Canadians this really won’t affect you unless you have rental properties (as they don’t qualify for the principal residence exemption on capital gains) or a stacked RRSP.

I have been exit taxed friend. Your retirement is fine and you need to sell property 365 days in advance of your departure unless things have changed. You can leave Canada all you like but if you want to leave for taxation purposes there is exit tax. Agreed most people aiming to leave are not impacted.

this is true, and the root cause is stupidity plus bad habits ingrained by stupid parents. Some people never learned how to manage money properly, regardless of financial status. I know people who grew up with at least one parent that couldn't manage money, and as a result (and in some cases a divorce where they spent most of the time with the irresponsible parent), they also can't manage money to save their lifes.
