A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That would have been the PKK, who are no longer the main Kurdish military group and have been a a bit of a back foot for years with support going to a mildly pro-Western Peshmerga and the Turks stomping on them.

Same shit with ye olde IRA with most of the various remnants degenerating into glorified drug runners. The way I understand it while the PKK/KDP/SDF/whatever the fuck are all unga bungas who totally fucking hate each other, over here they're united in the cause of selling smack to buy guns, with the occasional upset as seen by Sweden's grenade crisis.
Unless I'm just dumb and the Barzanis are really into straight edge? My racistism is too advanced for this I just see k*rd.

Guns is pretty much just Eastern Europeans now, it's why there's so many of Czech Skorpions that get seized over here. Before that it was squaddies bringing back and selling war souvenirs they robbed in the Balkans.

I think an aspect that people are majorly missing regarding the hotels is the financial state of the Home Office. The Home Office is ending these expensive contracts purposefully so that the company has the full burden and fold, and essentially, now you have these abandoned places. Remember, Labour cannot build at the moment due to poor material costings and building firms laughing at them and calling them lunatics.

These people fucking despise the private sector with every fibre of their being, so making these companies fold is sport. It looks like they tried to force similar cheaper contracts with Travelodge and Premier Inn. Travelodge pretty much told them to fuck off and Premier seems to have done the same.

This is also telling as it shows they have run out of small/med hotels and they are resisting. There is a glimmer of hope amidst this horror. I do urge Kiwis to be careful because crime will skyrocket. It is crazy the speed this is happening though, this took months, which would usually take years.

And as a bonus one of the people evicted may torch the place. Making it even easier to justify levelling and rebuilding and as an extra victory they can claim the far right did it.

Can't say this has been my experience with them I'm afraid. To be fair on them they are a lot more secular than say Arabs, Afghans, or Pakistanis/Bengalis, but they are extremely clanish so while they don't really get involved with religious extremism they are very prone to engaging in organised street crime and just general niggerish behaviour. A lot of them have an ethnic superiority complex as well, which can make dealing with them a pain.

Granted if I had to, I'd take them over Afghans any day but they do cause their fair share of problems in their own right.

You're missing the wef element.
The tories enacted (and labour carried on) funding for private firms (serco) to buy housing for immigrants based on one immigrant per 200 indigenous in any location so we are all equally replaced.

So if you're not understanding the african element in your town recently, there you go.

Last year, the other half and I watched the Discovery documentary about Mogg's family. The first thing I said seeing him, I said he was a nonce. Mogg would win the by-election with no contest.

It is crazy, Labour has lost its majority by being thugs and nonces.
