Firing of National Security Agency Chief Rattles Lawmakers
The New York Times (archive.ph)

Gen. Timothy D. Haugh, who was also the head of U.S. Cyber Command, was one of several national security officials fired on the advice of a conspiracy theorist.

As soon as word spread that President Trump had fired Gen. Timothy D. Haugh, the head of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command, current and former administration officials began floating theories about why he had been let go.

Had General Haugh opposed one of Mr. Trump’s initiatives, perhaps moved too slowly on purging officers who had worked on diversity issues? Or was he a casualty of the administration’s shifting priorities to counter narcotics?

Whether any of that was true, it had little, if anything, to do with why he was fired.

General Haugh was ousted because Laura Loomer, a far-right wing conspiracy theorist and Trump adviser, had accused him and his deputy of disloyalty, according to U.S. officials and Ms. Loomer’s social media post early Friday. He was one of several national security officials fired this past week on her advice.

“I predict you are going to see some nonsense statement about some policy difference or something General Haugh wasn’t doing, but we all know what happened,” said Senator Angus King, a Maine independent who is on the intelligence and armed services committees. “Laura Loomer said it. She is the one who told Trump to fire him.”

Senator Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican and former majority leader, lamented that the Trump White House had ousted General Haugh and was appointing people to Pentagon posts who were skeptical of America’s engagement with allies and the world.

“If decades of experience in uniform isn’t enough to lead the N.S.A. but amateur isolationists can hold senior policy jobs at the Pentagon, then what exactly are the criteria for working on this administration’s national security staff?” Mr. McConnell said. “I can’t figure it out.”

The criteria Ms. Loomer appears to be using as she looks to oust people she sees as disloyal is their connections to critics of the Trump administration.

In her social media post, Ms. Loomer said General Haugh had been chosen by Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, whom she called a traitor.

Ms. Loomer said General Haugh’s deputy at the National Security Agency, Wendy Noble, was close to James Clapper, a former director of national intelligence and fierce critic of Mr. Trump.

As chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Milley reviewed the appointments of hundreds of officers to key positions. Mr. Clapper, the longest-serving director of national intelligence in the Obama administration and a senior defense intelligence official under George W. Bush, has ties to officials throughout the spy agencies.

Representative Jim Himes of Connecticut, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said he had worked closely with General Haugh and never saw anything to suggest disloyalty or a lack of competence.

“I fear this is just the hourly installment in the Laura Loomer clown car aspect of this administration,” Mr. Himes said.

He said that it was important to have a detail-oriented leader at the top of the N.S.A., and that he was concerned General Haugh’s ouster could lead to policy changes.

Mr. Himes also said he was concerned that the Trump administration could try to split the jobs of N.S.A. director and head of Cyber Command.

Since U.S. Cyber Command was created, the director of the National Security Agency has led that organization. Some within the Trump administration, and veterans of his first term, want the two jobs separated. That would allow a military officer to lead Cyber Command but give the president or the defense secretary the license to name a civilian to lead the agency.

The two agencies work closely together, but have different roles. The National Security Agency penetrates telecom and computer networks overseas, collecting communications intercepts. Cyber Command conducts offensive and defensive operations on computer networks overseas. The command helps allied countries defend their networks and hunts for malware and breaches by Russia and other adversaries.

It also conducts offensive operations against the networks of adversaries to disrupt their ability to attack the United States.

A succession of N.S.A. directors have argued that one military officer should lead both agencies to improve coordination. But some Trump administration officials believe that it is important to have a civilian in charge one of the most important spy agencies.

Some Trump administration officials have been critical of the N.S.A.’s broad power to intercept phone calls overseas, because some Americans have been caught up in those efforts.

Mr. Himes said he opposed splitting the jobs. While there is an argument for separating them if done carefully, Mr. Himes said he doubted the Trump administration would proceed in such a manner. The administration was already imposing irrational cuts on the N.S.A. that were costing the agency skilled people, he said.

“Given this administration’s break-it-first-then-fix-it style of operating, I am concerned,” Mr. Himes said. “It is not the low performers or obsolete skill sets that are being fired. In many cases it is some of our most valuable people. And this very directly makes us less safe.”

Beyond the structure of the commands, some Trump administration officials want the N.S.A. to move faster on White House initiatives.

But Mr. Himes said there was no evidence the N.S.A. was slow rolling administration priorities, and he added that General Haugh was working to step up collection on drug cartels.

“I can say with certainty that the N.S.A. was reorienting its priorities,” Mr. Himes said. “In fact in some ways they were shifting in ways that made me a little concerned that the pivot to Asia and counterterrorism collection would get short-shrifted.”

Mr. King said it was deeply dangerous to remove General Haugh at a time when Chinese intelligence agencies were penetrating telecom networks and ransomware attacks backed by Russia on hospitals were continuing.

“Our country is under attack right now in cyberspace, and the president has just removed our top general from the field for no reason at the recommendation of someone who knows nothing about national security or even the job this general does,” Mr. King said.

congrats on the red wave I guess,
if Trump would've of just stayed on deportation and immigration, anti-DEI/woke, avoiding rhetoric to invade other countries and not having Musk in government or fucking up the economy, republicans could have enjoyed a long wins for decades to come.

but at last, he's forgotten why he won. Unfortunately, tariffs is the only thing he truly believes in and won't back down on.

Cheers to a new Chinese-ruled world order:drink:,

Wow, you’re a retard aren’t you?
I didn't vote nor really cared
Then nothing you say has any bearing on anything. Fucking moron.

I don't get it, isn't all the institutions the pentagon, intelligence agencies and federal organizations supposed to serve and follow the president orders? the democratically elected voice of the nation?
I'm not sure why is it bad to fire a dude that's not doing his job

Lmao at all the stock seething. I own stocks, and I have lost nothing, because I Own The Stocks Still. Unless you were a seething retard who panic sold, all that's happened is some third party assessment of the dollar value of your stake has changed, but you still own the exact same amount of the company. If everything is down, that means everything was overinflated in that dollar value assessment.

If the companies I bought into are in fact not shit, and make it through this transitionary phase, it'll be just fine. The only ones to be actually afraid of are the ones who were hyperinflating their stock values with bullshit games, rather than via producing goods and services. Which admittedly, is pretty much all recent tech IPO's, but if you bought into Reddit thinking it was an economically productive asset, you were gonna get assfucked regardless of the cause. This way is just funnier.

We all know already that Taylor Swift was a /b/tard...
(the "Meredith the Cat" thing makes everything else simply beyond coincidence: that's a fact)

Look at Bill Murray, recently on Joe Rogan, saying that the first time he was reading of Bob Woodward's account of John Belushi's death, he said 3 pages into the book, "holy shit, they framed Nixon" -- that is, because he personally knew Belushi, and knew this official account of this hard-drinking drug-addicted guy had nothing to do with reality, when in fact Belushi was the most lightweight of lightweights.
He realized from that how much Bob Woodward is necessarily full of shit, and exists to destroy reputations.

It's an interesting thing, when you realize the people who have realized... those ones Joe Rogan has obliquely talked of, "they voted for Trump but they can't admit it"...

Trump won florida by a 37-point and 30 point margin in 2024 in the 1st and 6th district, while the new candidates won by 14-points and 17 points. this is complacency. they're not showing up as much as they did in 2024.

I didn't vote nor really cared, I thought he would govern like in 2017-2020, but recent losses in my portfolio has really started making me reconsider.

the popular vote was won by a 1.5% margin, that is not very close nor is it going to last very long if he continues with his actions
Line go up is more gooder.

In Mexico, Gov. JB Pritzker positions Illinois as a ‘stable and reliable trade partner’ amid Trump tariffs

By JEREMY GORNER | jgorner@chicagotribune.com| Chicago Tribune
PUBLISHED: April 2, 2025 at 7:03 PM CDT

SPRINGFIELD — Gov. JB Pritzker on Wednesday said his trade mission to Mexico this week was an opportunity to cast Illinois as “a stable and reliable trade partner” at a time of economic uncertainty as President Donald Trump places tariffs on goods from the southern border nation, Canada and other countries around the world.

Speaking to reporters on a video call from Mexico City, the governor touted the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the state of Mexico, the entity that surrounds Mexico City, to strengthen its trade relationship with Illinois in the areas of manufacturing, agriculture and supply chains. Pritzker said his delegation heard from manufacturing companies deemed key players in the energy supply chain that are interested in bringing production facilities to Illinois.

He said the delegation spoke to over 100 representatives from more than 50 major Mexican companies about bringing operations to Illinois.

“There’s so much that sets apart our state. Our abundant land and water resources, our infrastructure, our location in the middle of the country, the fact that we produce more electricity than we use in our state,” Pritzker said. “My team and I will be working tirelessly in the coming months to track down every single lead and bring every dollar of potential investment for our communities that has resulted from this visit to Mexico. The conversations and connections that began here will carry forward throughout our work to make ours the best state in the nation to live, work, raise a family and build a business.”

The trip by Pritzker, Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and a delegation of business, civic and government leaders follows similar trade missions led by the governor in recent years to Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Germany and the United Kingdom to showcase Illinois for the potential to attract international business.

Stratton told reporters she met with agricultural leaders during the trip to discuss how to bolster Illinois’ trade partnerships and emphasize how agriculture “connects us all even across borders.” She also said she led talks on business development meetings, resulting in “meaningful talks of expansion in Illinois,” while also acknowledging the economic challenges that lie ahead.

“We all know that these are uncertain times, and to be honest that’s not great for business. But instead of turning away in uncertainty, we need to turn toward each other to solve problems, and that’s why the time spent face to face, fostering relationships and reaffirming our partnership and friendship with Mexico is so very important,” Stratton said.

Pritzker’s update on the trade mission comes the same day Trump announced a baseline tax of 10% on imports from every country and higher tariff rates on a number of nations running trade surpluses with the U.S., according to The Associated Press. The move, according to the news agency, could lead to trade wars and threatens to aggravate the global economy.

The governor, an outspoken foe of Trump, reiterated his stance that tariffs are “really a tax on working families” and that they’re not good for the economy and may lead to a recession in the U.S.

“Here in Mexico, there is deep concern. Let’s start with just the concern that the tariffs seem so broad-based and not well-negotiated or thought out that they will potentially destroy some businesses in Mexico that U.S. companies rely upon,” said Pritzker, who is mulling a possible run for the White House in 2028. “The uncertainty that we’ve heard over and over again in the discussions with our Mexican counterparts is going to lead to them pulling back on making investments and potentially pulling back on providing the supply items that our U.S. businesses need.”

“We couldn’t allay those concerns but what we could do was remind them that in Illinois we are a stable and reliable trade partner in Illinois, and that when things settle down … it will do well for them to do business with our companies in Illinois,” the governor said.

Illinois opened an office in Mexico in 1989 to strengthen its business relationship with the country, and Illinois has worked over the years to expand trade with Mexico through initiatives such as Illinois’ State Trade and Export Promotion program, according to the governor’s office.

The office also said trade between Illinois and Mexico exceeded $32 billion last year, making Mexico the second-largest export market for Illinois. Mexico is also Illinois’ third-largest import market, with the state importing billions of dollars in beverages, transportation and electronics, the office said.

In Springfield, Illinois Senate Republican leader John Curran said anything that would increase investment, trade activity and business growth for the state is a positive thing and that manufacturing and agriculture are “two incredibly important” sectors that need to thrive in Illinois. He also stressed the value of Mexico as a trading partner for the state. But he said the governor probably would’ve been better served “making this a bipartisan trip.”

“We certainly want our trading partner, Mexico, to understand that there is bipartisan support in economic activity, in working together between the state of Illinois and businesses in Mexico, and we want that to grow and thrive,” said Curran, of Downers Grove.

(I hate this obese kike)

I thought that napoleon quote trump said on xitter was evil or somethin’
No that's just Anglo-Jewish propaganda. Napoleon was fucking great. The man was born as a nobody on a small island, and thru sheer competence, ambition and will power, within 26 years he was redrawing european borders, ending 1100 year old countries and creating new ones out of nothing, and extorting the pope. By 30 The beloved dictator of the most powerful nation in mainland Europe, by 34 Emperor by his own hand and by 36 the master of Europe.

Laura Loomer Is a Warning
The Atlantic (archive.ph)

No one else with direct access to the president has been as outwardly bigoted.
White House staffers, it seems, had better hope that they stay in Laura Loomer’s good graces. This week, Loomer—a far-right provocateur who has described herself as “pro–white nationalism” and Islam as a “cancer on humanity”—met with Donald Trump in the Oval Office. After she reportedly railed against National Security Council officials she believed were disloyal to the president, the White House fired six NSC staff members the next day. More firings could be on their way: Yesterday, a person close to the administration told my colleague Michael Scherer that “Loomer has been asked to put together a list of people at State who are not MAGA loyalists.”

Loomer doesn’t have an official job in the Trump administration, and the president has denied that she had anything to do with the NSC firings. But she is one of the president’s confidantes, and she has come to exercise a significant amount of influence over the White House. Lots of people in Trump’s inner circle have unlikely backgrounds (defense secretaries are not usually hired straight from Fox News), but Loomer’s is probably the least likely of them all. Over the past decade, she has earned a reputation as an unapologetically racist troll. In 2018, after she was banned from Twitter for criticizing then-incoming Representative Ilhan Omar and her Muslim faith, she famously handcuffed herself to the door of Twitter’s New York City headquarters. She was reinstated after Elon Musk bought the platform, and has continued to post racist things on X: In September, she suggested that a Kamala Harris election win would mean that “the White House will smell like curry.” (Loomer did not respond to a request for comment.)

Loomer’s power marks how little Trump now seems to care about being around people who have expressed racist and extremist ideas and kept racist and extremist company. She is a bit like the Forrest Gump of Trumpworld—an unlikely but persistent character who just keeps popping up during some of the right’s biggest moments. When Trump got off his private plane on his way to the presidential debate in September, Loomer appeared with him. The next day, when Trump traveled to New York for a 9/11-anniversary memorial, Loomer was again there with him. (She has called 9/11 an “inside job.”) As I wrote at the time, prominent Republicans did not like that their presidential candidate was associating himself with Loomer, and publicly challenged Trump over it. He seemingly has not listened.

Loomer has also played a role in directing discourse on the right. She was integral to drumming up the hoax that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating people’s pets, which became one of the most prominent right-wing causes du jour during the presidential campaign. In December, she instigated a war on the right over high-skilled immigration after she criticized the administration’s hiring of Sriram Krishnan as an AI-policy adviser and called attention to his past comments advocating for expanding H-1B visas. Most workers on H-1B visas are from India, and Loomer posted that Indian immigrants are “third world invaders.”

There is perhaps no one with direct access to the president who has been as outwardly and vociferously racist and bigoted. For all of the arguments that critics of Musk make about how he has boosted white supremacy on X, he has maintained a level of plausible deniability by never disparaging minority groups in a manner as direct as Loomer has. Someone like Loomer likely would not have had access to Trump in his first term. Richard Spencer never made it into Trump’s administration, and the president went out of his way to disavow the white nationalist. In 2018, when CNN reported that Darren Beattie, then a White House speechwriter, had spoken at an event that also featured a white nationalist, he was fired. But now Beattie has been hired to a senior role in this administration.

The president has already clearly established that his second term will be more extreme. Instead of the limited Muslim travel ban, he is pushing for mass deportations and has effectively shut down USAID, an agency largely devoted to helping poorer countries. But by welcoming Loomer into his inner circle, Trump is offering an even starker glimpse into how this administration is different. She is a testament to how much further to the right Trump has moved since his first term, and how much further he may be open to going.

but to any of these economic geniuses on reddit or twitter what would you do??? I’m besides myself in anticipation gimme a better option. Printing money didn’t work.

If you listen to 145 IQ polymaths such as Patrick Tomlinson, not only did printing money work, it lead to the greatest economy of all time!

I remember watching one newscast relay amazing jobs reports last October or so, one that would be "revised" out of existence, and they were shocked that anyone thought the economy was in bad shape, and that the COL crisis was just people psyching themselves out of prosperity.
