The Ontario Sunshine List for 2025 is now live ! Aren't you glad we have a handy list of all the teachers, cops, and nurses who make a meager $100,000 and can't afford to buy a home but are still subject to having their full names, positions, salaries and taxable benefits made public. Lol, lmao even.

Impact of inflation on the Ontario sunshine list​

Since 1996, the $100,000 threshold has not changed. The effect of increasing the threshold is shown below:
  • Canadian consumer price index (CPI) has increased by 81.0% from 1996 to 2024
  • In 2024, there were 377,666 records on the sunshine list
  • If the threshold were to follow the CPI, the size of the 2024 list would have been reduced by 93%, to 25,393 records.
  • Put differently, in terms of the purchasing power of a Canadian Dollar buying Canadian goods and services, a $100,000 threshold in 2024 is equivalent to $55,252 in 1996.

There's a worryingly high number of people in this country who think it's perfectly fine to just shut your brain off and stop thinking about bad no-no not-feel-good thoughts and let daddy government or other authority figures like "the experts" do it all for them.
These people are the embodiment of that horrifying comic that suggests the less opinions you have, the smarter you are.

You aren’t forced to sell property but if you own rental property as a non resident the tax forms are a nightmare as you need an agent in Canada (relative) on paper to collect rent for you which is filing an NR6 and then you need to file an NR4 where you remit 25% of gross rents to the government. There is an opt out where you can remit 25% of net rental income but you have to file a shortened T1 return where you don’t get any of the basic credits but you owe less tax on your rental properties as a nonresident.

Anyway if you were forced to sell that wouldn’t be a deemed disposition it would only be a regular disposition.

In summary you aren’t forced to sell but it does make things easier for you if you do sell.

The sunshine list is retarded in 2025, if it exists at all it should be 200K as a 200K salary is the new 100K. Slight power level but when I was a municipal firefighter the sunshine list would often come up during our CBA negotiations because our captains who ride on every truck were closing in on the 100K mark and many were in favor for spreading out the pay package amongst pension and other benefits in order to avoid having their names published on the sunshine list. You would think most people don't mind firefighters getting a fair wage and while that is mostly true among general citizenry, amongst other municipal workers, particularly the pencil pushers there is often a tangible jealousy or hatred for firefighters.

Considering the difference in the enthusiasm gap between the two candidates I still think Pierre has it in the bag.

I won't be cucking and voting for Pierre though. Just can't bring myself to do it.
