Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Games need to go back to being a cohesive linear experience instead of everything AAA-level being some sort of open-world game. Having a game be open-world completely makes it generic and unmemorable in 98% of cases. Nintendo is the worst at this. Odyssey and BOTW were the first in this wave so they get a pass, but shit like the Kirby game everyone forgot about after they got their pink blorbo car memes out of the way and the new Mario Kart to me are the biggest offenders of this.

Even things like Souls-like games are honestly not as interesting to me because their open-world nature makes them blend together with all the other games in my mind except for 'woah bosses hard!' which doesn't attact me personally.

Not having a map, a diary and a pause button in a game doesn't make it 'harder', it just makes it fucking retarded. I can write on a piece of paper in lieu of a diary, so why remove the diary? If I can't pause a single-player game, which I play for fun, to attend to some IRL shit, you're game has failed.

April Fools Day needs to be abolished. It is the one day out of the year where people will let companies shit all over them and thank them for it. It's such a bizarre holiday for Gamers especially because a dev will come out and say "Hey kids, you know that thing you've been wanting for several years? Well here it is...NOT April Fools!"
It's refreshing to see companies go more mask-off than usual, though, and show their true contempt for fans.

The Dues Ex battle pass, allows you to skip the grind! etc etc.
There was a season pass for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The worse part of Mankind Divided was their "pre-order augment" program, where the more people pre-ordered, the more options they would have to include with their pre-order. Sorta sounds like a Kickstarter incentive. Pre-order bonuses are lame as it feels like they're segmenting what's included in the game for extra money.

GTA VI is going to be shit.
Yet it will still be heralded as GOTY upon release and make infinite money for a decade like GTA5. In fact, because of the general increase in players within the gaming market and the dearth of competition, I predict it will outpace GTA5's revenue by a considerable margin.

Also, a leading question rather than a take, was Witcher 3 actually good? I remember that everyone glazed it around its release but when I was watching my friend play it, it looked quite mid.

Witcher 3 is a dog of a game, barely a C level action game with busted, strange decisions in mechanics that make the game insanely easy. It's got better writing than the netflix show, and the performances are ok. It's a real moviegame, its got zero value as an open world adventure game and maybe 10 bucks of movie value. Or zero, it's not hard to pirate

Picking Witcher 3 over Bloodborne on 2015 was the point of no return for this industry.

I did not like Bloodborne.

I think the collapse already happened, not in terms of financial collapse but rather a collapse in ideas and thoughtful games with interesting mechanics and that work from day 1. There's not going to be another game like the OG Deus Ex when COD 1488 NIGGER KILLER DIVISION can sell millions at 90 dollar
To be fair, if COD 1488 NIGGER KILLER DIVISION was released, i'd probably buy it for the title alone

i'LL be hoenst, I really liked the Witcher 3 when I played it, didn't finish it, and I kind of agree. The combat wasn't exactly a draw, I wouldn't say ANYTHING gameplay wise was a draw, it just had really good stories for what it was. Most of the time.

It was pretty and not totally hacky. (Bloody Baron's wife/lubberkin story make me cry)

Witcher 3 really shines in its DLCs, HOS and Blood and Wine are excellent.
This is so but the games core systems are just fundamentally mediocre. I think the game would function better as a TV show, just not the turd that we got. The story and look and performances are what people remember, which is good for The Witcher Franchise (tm) but bad as an assessment of witcher 3 the game. ALSO CDPR fucking can’t launch a game to save their lives
