He had the opposite of imposter syndrome where he falsely thought that he was far better than he actually was, so he got Dunning-Krugered.
"Of course I'm getting all this fame and fortune, I'm special and amazing! In fact, I don't need this boring, mainstream success! I'm so cool and charismatic that I can just do whatever I want and people will love it!"
He was of course, wrong.
Part of it IMO was that he read alot of Ayn Rand when he was younger and, like many, he was able to convince himself that he was an unrecognized genius. That he was Howard Roark from the Fountainhead or be one of the people hanging out with John Galt in "Atlas Shrugged". Like many people, Nick never quite realized that from a Randian perspective he was on the other side.
We don't know the exact timing of when he started on coke, but I would strongly believe that the white powder helped him make the transition from uberman to living god. 2023 and 2024 Nick became convinced that the law thing was all secondary to people being in love with Nick and his magnetic personality.
