Modern writing to make a woman look “badass” and not the most annoying person you have met. Went and watched a “all Lady scenes in DMC3” - cool/badass character who nonetheless has limits that get very clearly defined, still an asshole to start without cursing (so is Dante in that as well). Somewhat brooding and driven by her father’s actions.

You know they fucked up when they keep having her referred to by the name her father gave her.

The fun part is there is this sort of “church corrupt” in the games - DMC4, but it was done well. The cult of Sparda that opened the gates of hell to let evil demons out to kill people, only for the cult to have their own demonically enhanced/refined army made in angelic iconography to “save” them and have them convert.

Key difference here - demons are still fundamentally evil demons and the cult is corrupted by by the power of demons to do a false flag. If you tried doing this story he would massively fuck it up.

you know what? fuck this show. i was enjoying it untill the ending and, even though i was not there for the refugee sub plot and the sensless killing of them, wanted to excuse it.
but now? humans nuking hell with american idiot blasting in the background? taking over hell? freezing dante? what the fuck. not even including uroboros inc at the last moment could not distract me from getting visualy upset in front of my wife of how much i hated the entire ending.

Bit down and sped through the season (just press skip, watch a bit, skip, watch a bit - got the gist of the story). The fuckup point of the show is the involvement of the American government and mercenary groups imo. Just make the thing seem like Invincible. The politics are really ham fisted. No subtlety at all, do not care at all about the US government or their fake as fuck task force - never been a thing in the games. The barest hints of some kind of government intervention seems to come in 5 where they get owned (and likewise do here later). Too much fucking modern mercenaries and government agents and governments trying to do shit with demons. Neither know nor care about spook agencies or geopolitics or the refugee question.

This bleeds into the design. Everything is in America/the city. Why is Agni/Rudra, Echidna and Cavaliere Angelo (all from different games) mucking around in a plane or in a normal building or in a city? 2 is the one where its got modern sections and even then its got its share of gothic architecture. 3 has a bit but most of it takes place in the large gothic tower and 5 has Qliphoth/eldritch designs. They all have that old style gothic architecture or design that is core - he's completely removed it. Ergo - looking at another Invincible situation. His dislike of religion, as in the Castlevania situation, is also apparent. Demons apparently have common ancestry with humans in episode 1 - why?

They turned Lady...sorry, Mary Arkham, into a government spook. That is the worst part of her imo, more than the constant cursing to seem badass (in the DMC games there is only one character who does this - Nero, and its in part to show his youth compared to the others - it stands out in the games). They remove the attire and missmash of guns for standard government tech that makes her seem bland as shit. Those cool flips and moves - that's because she has government tech, not the peak of human bordering superhuman. They also make her loyal like a soldier to the US government - not at all her character. Not a person who after the events would backstab Dante like she does at the end because government said so - complete mischaracterisation and that this hack insists its an authentic representation of her is just a lie. Made her very cookie cutter in design and she doesn't use her main defining weapon other than once. You could make an OC and it would be not much different.

Dante gets nerfed (of course) and he's really cookie cutter "cool" that you see in western animation, - which is they have to make him kinda cool but also suck. They miss the "stylish" part of him. This is a guy who is meant to be powerful enough to mostly laugh his way through most demons except for the really top tier guys (in cutscenes) - his brother, Mundus etc. Characterisation is more fitting of Nero and his angst than of Dante. Dante is kind of a constant character (outside some weirdness in 1 and 2), and the situations he finds himself to would be better suited for Nero. Think Young-Bosch voices Dante as well...the guy who voices Nero in the games, so that doesn't help either.

Its not DMC, its more like the remake, but he's using the old designs and insisting its a faithful recreation when its not at all. Its just bad.

On the subject of the bnuy, here's the pages where he shows up. There was this Alice in Wonderland theme they were going for the prequel manga.

Also a misc fun fact, the text has been altered. Because this page...

Had Vergil admonishing the former Alice loli "for growing up too fast like so many painted whores. " The mistranslation on the official book also called the Rabbit as "Rabbi" by Alice. Take of that as you will.

It's also astonishingly tone deaf to produce America bad propaganda about the Middle East when Isreal is actively in the middle of genociding several Arab populations.
Yep. Early 2000s called. They want their Freedom Fries back.

The Jeet strikes me as the same type of hack as Niel Drukmann.

Alright season finale time. Ep 7 and 8

it was good until the ending, then it was hilariously stupid. I liked seeing the rabbit get called out for experimenting on his "kind" and Dante telling him how retarded his plan to let the demons roam free and fucking eat people was because the good demon minorities are oppressed. Lady hogged some of Dante's thunder at the beginning of 7, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. At the end of the day Dante did get to finish him off and take out his mooks.

It was mostly a good finale, aside from well.. the finale bit. Although I confess to enjoying it greatly. Made me laugh my ass off at how inappropriate and meme worthy it was. It's peak avatar levels of humanity fuck yeah. LETS INVADE HELL, NUKE THE BASTARDS, STEAL THEIR RESOURCES AND ENSLAVE THE SURVIVORS! IM BATMAN!

FUCK YEAH

I'm going to get shit for this but I'll give this season a 7.8 out of 10

When it comes to the fights, the pacing, the characters and the soundtrack I had no problems. They simply made a stupid narrative decision that needlessly pissed off a lot of fans and made things needlessly morally grey. Also lady swears a lot but I didn't really have a problem with that.

I'll do a more autistic deep dive on the characters and analyze them later but for right now I'm gonna leave it at that and say I'm legit enthusiastic for the next season ironically and unironically. ( They better cast another batman actor as the vice president)

Most people don't know that it exists and it will thankfully die out after only one or two seasons at most, like with Castlevania: Nocturne. The niggercattle are stupid, but they're not THAT fucking stupid.
The thing that was interesting about nocturne is apparently ali actually came in late to the production. It was independent of him at first and Id very curious to know if the Haitian bullshit was out of his hands by the time he took over. It's definitely the worst one I've seen of his and from the spoilers the most subversive by season 2, but I'm wondering how much was him and how much was just "fuck it, let's bring in alucard, salvage what we can and make an entertaining mess"
White rabbit is from the dmc 3 prequel manga bro......
Ok I should have clarified. The design is copied from a manga, but that manga was cancelled and we never really got the inside baseball of his character. Unless they got in touch and copy pasted the cancelled plot he's an original with an unoriginal design. Also my main point was that he wasn't a pre-existing game character
You know I look back and think the whole Iraq War thing was not even done out of any deep political thought beyond showing how evil le humans are because for all his dicksuckers love to act like he's making thoughtful Anti-America commentary, Shankar happily attended Trump's inauguration and his only problem with conservative political figures is that they don't like anime

Of course you can both hate the Iraq War and like these guys but for someone whose fans say he has a negative opinion about America, he sure is super duper happy to support the president when the chips are down.
I don't think there was any real malice in this production. People are making it out as a grand political anti borders anti policing immigrant thing, but id bet that this whole storyline was done because it seemed cool and original to them. At most I'll entertain the thought that the writer might have snuck in some themes but I think adi is just punch drunk with ideas.

Absolutely, he would do what sounds and looks cool without thinking of the long term implications

Completely understand, but my reaction was this

Seems like people are split down the middle on if the show is shit or fine. Surprised reddit isn't banning people for shitting on it. This made me laugh.

Replace Dante with lady and this is entirely accurate.

You know considering how butchered the Devil May Cry Cartoon is and the colossal fuck ups that is Netflix, I'd unironically want to have Matt Stone and Trey Parker directing it.

Because watching Team America fuck Satan up sounds hilarious.

I just wonder when they will unironically start flagellating Haitian voodoo demons, just like in Castlevania: Nocturne.
Next season. Guaranteed.

Only thing left to top it all off is if Netflix somehow gets Christine to make Sonichu animated a reality.

Definitely the same school of 'Endless subversion, no matter how or where, is good."

Not a single moment can end satisfactorily, not a single character can be authentic, not a single redemption can play out normally and not a single hero can be genuinely heroic without a subversion coming right after. It's garbage.
Wow this is really interesting. Ells might have legit wrote in the alucard rape scene to spite Shankar
Ellis, for all his problems, is an actual writer who has made many successful works over the years. As soon as he was cut out of the equation for both Nocturne, and Shankar's Lazerhawk, you can see the writing Plummet off a fucking cliff.

Coincidentally is how the Soviet Union worked when it came to creative content. Books only had happy endings. Pictures only had blankly smiling people, anything and everything must glorify the party. If you want any authentic work, it must be hidden from the censors until its too late.

The STALKER Movie (Yes, the one based on the Roadside Picnic which spawned the gopnik survival shooter of games) got admonished by the USSR for having a segment that showed the reality of Communism.

Welp. I know Capcom is fucked considering their recent decisions in moving to IRL Current Year Mordor AKA California, the Jeet has earned his place on the do-not-watch shitlist. Uwe Boll while he makes crappy films comes off more like Ed Wood who just wants to play with IPs. The Jeet is legit trying to subvert expectations and force 'the message' onto everyone else. Into the trash he goes where he belongs.

I can see this because Ellis is a POS who is literally responsible for a lot of the bedlamites who destroyed American comics.

HOWEVER, it was known what type of writer/person he was well before he joined on. S1 & 2 have spiteful cracks in them that spit in the face of the canon. Adi should’ve had a problem then, but, based on his handling of DMC and other projects, I think he liked that aspect. He just didn’t like when the cobra bit him.
