Because China is a nation that does not endure duress. China is a nation of face. When it comes to promising things they're very skilled; when it comes to doing them they fail miserably. This has been proven pretty consistently in every interaction anybody has had with them, from an embarrassing war with India to basic trade. A country that still relies upon literal slave labor is not going to be a worthy replacement for the United States. I won't even get into how flimsy the yuan is.

China is a diverse country whose potential is held down by a tight, cliquey and totally archaic form of government that enforces an equally as bad culture. I really want to say that if Chinese people weren't held down by those things they'd be exceptional, but something has to be wrong with an ethnicity to let all that happen in the first place.
