Other than having servers and channels Discord is nothing like IRC. If anything I would say Discord is more like Mumble (or TS/Vent/skype) with a modern shitty electron GUI. Despite mumble being ancient, it's far better as like irc, it's self hosted and Discord doesn't own your data. Mumble also has features that Discord does not have (at least it did not the last time I used it 4-5 years ago), like fucking suppressing your push-to-talk key. In fact all of the ancient voice chat clients have that feature, a pretty key feature for gaming.
