The entire global market is so filled with duct tape and piled on fixes it's a joke it still works. Shit needs to be fucking burned down so the new brush can thrive.

So you don't have countries like China playing games by offloading there and having Singapore ships offloading in the US. Either everyone gets tarrifed or no one does.

It's why I keep asking, "what's the alternative here then?".

The walls get closer, and millenials (and lots of boomers) say "well we can't do anything about it now because it might hurt us!" and each generation says the same as the breathing room gets smaller with time.

It might not work, of course, but it's much better than watching each generation have it worse than the last and not doing anything about it.

First we had the 08' crash and years of noone being able to find jobs, missing out of opportunities, 1/10 people finding a job in their field, tech- etc.

90% of this generation being underemployed and noone giving a shit, and usually worse- just saying to eat less avocado toast.

Then we had the covid recession, and basically every small business closing down. One of my own closest friends had finally gotten his shit together, but relapsed in this period and died of a fentanyl overdose. His support network collapsed, jobs dried up, it was a nasty time and noone gave a shit (now we dont have local mom and pops, but amazon which raked in billions)

and now we have another 'Once in a lifetime' financial crisis.

I dont think what Trump wants to do is going to work. Im not cheering on the boomers demise necessarily, although I sort of am in a sense- but its like

they only act like this Now?

We can always make smaller ones, and at the same time, I doubt that. That sounds like propaganda to keep American car manufacturers out. They can drive those 10 ton Isuzu trucks down the road fine, they can handle a Chevy Malibu

According to Trump, the USA needs to have a goods surplus with all countries in the world in order for them to face a 10% tariff. This doesn't take into account America's surplus in capital investment and services. Most countries, under these conditions, will try to avoid the American market.

But US cars have zero fuel efficiency and good luck parking them outside Siberia.

Technically Japan could bulldoze all their towns, rebuild for giant Canyoneiro, or Tesla could make iMusk Minis, but that ain't cheap nor fast.

There is no reason why Japanese carmakers can't do that, who already do. You would need to make cars smaller and make them economically viable for fuel and price.

I'll be waiting for the wage calculations on it. You will make 5 dollars a day and you will like it, for Glorius Nippon Ford to sell.

Even if it does, Slomo will get the profits, not you.

japan hasnt implemented tariffs on foreign cards since 1978

"Japan does not charge U.S. automakers, or any foreign automakers, tariffs on vehicles imported into Japan. Japan does charge nominal tariffs on other categories of goods: agriculture (15.5%) and clothing (9.2%), according to Trade.gov."
